Title: Non squeak spikes
Post by: TangoWhiskey on June 17, 2015, 10:06:38 AM
I'm after a new set of spikes as I've been driven to dristraction by my GN Legend pads squeaking against my Adidas 22yds. I've tried everything from leather conditioner to masking tape but it doesn't work.

I'm looking for a set of batting spikes which don't have leather around the opening where your foot goes in as it seems that is the cause. Can anyone recommend anything?

Cheers.

buy leather conditioner and put it on your shoes/base of your pads - there are a few mentions of it on here recently

Vaseline on the pads??
Put your trousers between the shoe and pad??

As I mentioned in my post I've tried this. I've rubbed in so much leather conditioner to both they probably now weigh half a kilo each.

All well and good but how do you suggest I keep them there when I'm running between wickets?

Urrm, never had that issue.  :-[
Deal in boundaries and avoid batting for prolonged periods  ;)

It isn't the shoes, it's the pads.

My Legends took about 15 games to stop squeaking, plus all the associated nets in between. I wore various footwear items in that time.

I've had them for 3 years now, played nearly 100 games!

Oh! Well scratch my comment then.

The least 'leathery' shoe collars are probably (in order of best option first)

Nike Lunar Dominate  (mesh and a plasticky PU combo)
NB CK10 i have it in the red colourway as well as a few of the completely plain white ones (lots of mesh and a small amount of what feels almost like suede but doesn't seem to squeak)
Adidas Vector and SL22 (mesh and a small strip of leather)

100 games and a bucket load of runs??

Or

100 games with 50 ducks and an average of 4?

I always used Elastoplast tape over the instep of the pads, worked a dream  :)

@Vitas Cricket do you mean the Adidas Adidas SL22 FS II ones? Out of all the ones you suggest they are the least offensive on my eyes...

Yes Adidas SL22 FSII.

We don't hold much if any old stock, so footwear wise only have this years models.

The NB shoes are plain white if that helps in the eye offending department? I don't have many size options left but hopefully would be able to help :)

Without wanting to sound too pernickety, those white ones are bloody dull aren't they! I'll probably crack on with those Adidas ones to be honest, i'll send an order through your website. Cheers for your help mate.

I have the NB shoes above. My NB pads did squeak with those boots until I leather conditioned the pads.

Ah well, I need a change of footwear anyway, I've had the shoes longer than I've had the pads! Plus my feet have started hurting a lot after games so I imagine the padding and support is all knackered on them.

surely new pads would be cheaper than new shoes...

I like everything about my legends except the squeak. My shoes have become uncomfortable. Also my legends cost about £80 when I bought them, shoes are going to cost £60.

@Vitas Cricket do the GN Test Opener shoes have a leather collar?

How about the Velocity ones?

There is a lot of mesh, but a small strip of leather funning directly below the collar.

Maybe a silly suggestion but would spikes trainers not be a good idea to avoid the leather on leather?? JD sports have a big sale on and have some nice plain and simple white & blue Asics from £70 to £30 and it's about £35 to spike isn't it?? Just a suggestion
