Thinking of going to this but know nothing of the ground. Is paying the extra for the Woolley stand worth it? I will be driving, any hints or tips are very welcome.

Ive been to Kent alot, never paid for the Woolley stand but is usually a fiver (dont know if they have increased it for this game). Parking on the ground is very sparse but they usually open the school across the road to park in, would suggest parking there

Yes it is worth it mate great views and if it's hot good shade spot, been Kent loads and I would always get train and walk up the hill even if it's parking at station close by. Lovely ground with great views all around if you don't get Wooly stand

Looks like the trip is going ahead. For after the match any recommendations for a traditional pub with good food and fine ales? Quite fond of a fine stout. Any local variations?
-
Matt at H4L also has a stand there for the first 3 days, so will be worth the trip just for that :)

There is a pub just outside the ground, see a lot of players in there on occasions, seen cook and a loads in there couple of years back after a T20 game. Loads of local little villages etc depending where your staying.

Looks a decent side from the Aussies and see billings is playing too. Kenya bowling attack isn't the best at the best of times but feel the Aussies will carve them apart even more now that Stevens and Coles aren't playing.

Had a great day Yesterday. Atmosphere was great. My Aussie team-mate loved it. Met up with H4L Matt (always a pleasure). Going to be a busy next few days for him. An attention seeking idiot pitched his tent in the outfield. The security took a while to notice him. Kent worked hard but the Aussies weren“t under any pressure. Had a nice meal and pint in the Parrot then later kind of gatecrashed a jazz concert in the King“s school grounds. Great day in all.

Kent have said that hey have made £100k from the game which is great news for Kent who are skint! Does anyone know if counties have to bid for tour games? Seems Kent seem to get a lot of Aussie tour games, so wonder if there is some sort of rotation?
-
Essex seem to get a fair few too! Thinking maybe that if the first test is in London a Southern base that isn't a test match ground is preferable?

Think that might be more to do with the Cook / Flower / Gooch link.
