last weekend we play a cup quarter final and lost , this we think was due to a breach of rules and i wondered what people thought.
we play 40 overs per side and there is a bowling restriction of 8 overs per bowler. we were chasing 175ish and the score was 139-6 with 9 overs left. we lost another wicket (7 down) and my phone rang. it was our scorer telling me that we had just lost our 7th wicket from a bowler who had just bowled his 9th over. our captain then entered the field of (with the umpires permission) with score book in hand and should the umpires what had happened. the response was sorry it's our mistake lets carry on ?????
At the end of the game when the umpires signed the league sheet the wrote in the comments box that our captain had brought this to there attention but they were happy he had only bowled 8 overs (even though it was proved mathematically impossible for him not to of bowled 9)
Surely a replay should be the least that happens..?

I doubt a replay will happen. It will get put down as a genuine error and a learning mistake for next time.

Im sure something similar happened in a cup tie at our club a good few years ago, as you say was just put down as an error and we still won the game.

We had this on Saturday - apparently the number of overs bowled by each bowler comes down to the umpires responsibility, if the bowler bowled 9 overs ( instead of a maximum of 8 ) and the umpires let play continue at the time then it's fine.
A load of rubbish IMO but we weren't complaining Saturday when our bowlers' 11th over got a wicket ;) :D

I had a similar issue last season, i bowled the final over of a game with the oppo needing 6 runs to win. The over went for 5 so we won by 1 run. It transpired that I had bowled my allocation and therefore should not have bowled. The umpires said it's their fault and the result stands, much to the annoyance of the oppo. They were calling me and the captain a cheat etc but it was a genuine mistake on our behalf, and they should have been able to get 6 runs off my pies anyway!

In my league if this happens the scorers notify the umpires and fielding captain. Another bowler is required to finish the over. If the captain does not swap bowlers and allows the bowler to continue they forfeit maximum points. Pretty simple as sometimes it can be hard to keep track. It also means that games can't be lost on technicalities by not bringing the bowling restriction up at the time of the incident.

If they needed 6 off the last over and got 5, is that not a tie?!?

It was a rain reduced target, similar situation to the saffers had in the world cup a number of years ago

even with rain reduced targets tie is possible, did you mean 6 to tie ?

No the revised target was 196 and they got 195, hence we won by 1 run.

So they needed 7 off the last over, but only got 5...
We're good at maths here ;)
