i was always told to leave the bat horizontal to dry over night before applying the 2nd coat of oil on the face..then have 1 coat of oil at the back.
surprised he didnt knock the upper edge of the blade...IJC explains it much better & believe there was a superb post on oiling + knocking here on the forum..
