Is there a brand that goes with the sticker? What does the WW stand for?

Having black lettering on a dark background doesn't make it stand out. Personally I don't like them because they don't look very classy. It looks like a very basic design with very little thought (sorry).

There is also a word on the front. Can't even make out what is says without looking incredibly closely

not really my cuppa to be honest.

If you are trying to start a brand, best get a designer to help set you up.

If you consider for example the impact of this seasons GM stickers - they created so much impact a load of other brands have shamelessly copied them.

Get a professional (even if it is a friend) to help. Remember the branding has to do four things

1. advertise the brand
2. sell the bat on the shelf
3. Make the batsman feel like they will score runs with the bat
4. stand out in the middle - so everyone can see the successful batsman and to do the first 2...

It very much depends on your budget - use google to find someone local to you if you don't have a friend.

You need to recognise that it will cost you a bob or two to do it right...

You need to really think about what it looks like 60 yards away, I would suggest it takes 4-6 months to come up with a design that you are happy with, even if you think your first design is great chances are a month later you won't. That's not to say your final design will be loved by everyone, because it won't. Think of your target market (i.e. what type of cricketer?) and don't rush it. Also, mock up plenty of prototypes even if its just on plain A4 front your inkjet to start with.

cant make out the brand ............

and i cant even read what it says in the middle and im on a computer staring at it .... "expert" "exist"  .... not sure???

surely White against black would be better or even better metallic silver.

Just to clear up it says cricket in the middle

Black writing, light coloured background would be better, imho.

I think you need to be clearer on what your brand is going to be and base it on that. Do you want it to look preppy/modern/vintage. Do you want lots of bright vibrant colour, or something more simple and limited in colour.

It's taken me a good year of trial and error in finding a balance between what I want and what will sell.

A lot of sales will be generated on purely how the bat looks.

The black shield and scroll design reminds me very much of The Classic Bat Company circa 1996-7.

The shield looks alright, but in my opinion you'd do well to think about the name - Willow Wood? Doesn't stand out for me or, frankly, make any sense as a pairing of words. Sorry if that's a little harsh.

lets not beat around the bush and be polite, this man is going to spend his hard earned cash on this project.

They look rubbish, all of them. They look liek some kid doing a CDT/IT project for his GCSE.

Spend the money getting proper stickers designed now and you will reap the benefits later.

I took the DIY route and failed because of it.

Please dont be offended, im just being brutally honest and speaking from experience

Unfortunately stickers sell bats.

Totally agree.
Use GM for example - they have been Romida's biggest selling brand this year - this isn't because of Joe Root or Shane Watson - it is because their bats and the branding look great and their price points work.

Ask yourself - why have SS/Ton copied the GM stickers?

I'd agree with that, I liked the original Python stickers!

I presume you're not linked with them any more?
Title: Re: Cricket sticker design
Post by: GarrettJ on August 21, 2015, 10:46:59 AM
the retro ones I did myself and over rode the designer after the python ones looked a bit childish/unprofessional in relation to the snake head.

I dont deal with them anymore, hence the rebranding they have done.

Ahh fair enough, well you did a good job mate

I had a feeling that'd be the case with the new stuff though, the new branding certainly isn't anywhere near the same standard as the ones you did

Listen to these guys Mr Pain.

I work in the design and print industry - paying a designer (even a young trainee one) to come up with a decent design will be the best money you could spend.

Poor branding won't get you a second look!

Don't skimp on branding, especially logo design. Like mentioned previously by others stickers sell bats. Get it right to begin with even if it means delaying your launch and spending a bit more.

Maybe try putting a picture or logo on the front sticker to cover the empty space. As it is willow wood, you could put a tree or a tree being split into clefts maybe ???

I second this, I feel by the name it limits your design quite a lot and also doesn't sound very good on the ear. They sound to similar. Maybe trying to mix up names and synonyms might help your designs
