Title: Ricky Ponting owned players edition Kahuna pads
Post by: 19reading87 on July 27, 2015, 09:55:34 PM
As some of you will have seen, I put a post on the ebay bargain spots thread last week of some Ricky Pontings players edition batting pads. The description was that they belonged to Ponting himself and me, having wanted a pair of these since 2009 I went and made the compulsive purchase.

I contacted the seller on ebay to see if there was any movement on price, after a few messages back and forth we settled on an agreed price. Two days later the pads arrived....

.... And when they did I was simply stunned! I have never seen or felt pads like these before, the lightest pads I have ever picked up, fantastically made and with minimal logos they look stunning and with the top strap padded I thought to myself that the purchase was too good to be true, but then... As always Reds fines a fault in a pair of pads.... I notice the label on the side which the seller had forgot to mention to me! They are a small men's size!! I am 5ft 10, and they fit OK but that's at best. I'm gutted, I'm half tempted to keep them and make do or offer them to the forum family on here. But there is no denying the pads are something else! Incredible...

Anyway enjoy the pictures

I did a bit of research and found he was 5ft 10 but didn't realise he'd used small men's...

I've changed to small men's pads, and gloves for this season - much better fit - my knee actually locates in the knee cup now and I've had no issues with the level of protection either. Easier to run in too - and lighter.

Some of it is in the mind - they do look more compact (because they are) and the top hat naturally looks smaller too - but if you look at pictures of alastair cook his pads look like small men's on him size wise but he's 6ft 2in.

Stunning pads!!! But Ricky Ponting used to wear pads that had 7 canes front, isn't it? Cannot recollect seeing him wearing pads that had 8-9 cane front. Maybe my mistake.

That is really impressive and overly observant if you're correct.
However, you do need to get out a bit more...  ;)

This! I did this for a year with my first set of Kahuna's. I'm always telling players that they are wearing them the wrong way round, normally get some strange looks.

Obviously if these pads were actually for sale, they would be in the for sale section with a price in them etc.

Can I remind people that PM selling is banned

sorry to be a little bah humbug.

I own a pair of ponting match gloves and they are totally different from the player edition gloves sold by retailers. They are also small men's/youth in size. He also used small men's size pads and still does so I would have to call into question the authenticity of the advertised pads on e bay. The only gloves similar to ponting's  are the kookaburra player gloves sold by lorimers on e bay when they have them in stock.

:(, if I were, the comment would have been "Stunning pads!!! But Ricky Ponting used to wear pads that had 7 canes front, isn't it? Cannot recollect seeing him wearing pads that had 8-9 cane front. Maybe my mistake"  :)

Honestly, I have never seen him wear pads with more than 7 canes, that was why I made that comment. No intention to hurt the feelings of anyone....and there was a disclaimer at the end too.

Nice looking pads , and maybe if Ricky got his pads from kookaburra UK they would have more than likely had the extra cane in the lead leg. They definitely look like sponsored player pads for use in test matches etc. nice but fella I have GM small men's pads and they are still big on me with the knee roll coming up too far and I am 5 feet nine ches talk.

Pardon my ignorance and not to sound arrogant but what is difference in professional player's pads/softs as opposed to one in market barring the MCC regulations on logo?

Someone offered me Shane Watson's old pads.  Knackered - red marks all over the front.

I opted for Michael Clarke's.  Absolutely pristine; like they'd never been worn.
