Title: Team Selection
Post by: L21 on July 30, 2015, 09:05:12 AM
Morning guys,

Just wondering what the overall opinion is on this:

I was dropped last week from a team due to returning players and dropped to the lower team who played away.

This week I have been called back up to play, but the game is away (the longest journey of the season).

At the moment I am hesitant to play as this seems really unfair that I have been dropped one week to accommodate these "star" players who suddenly aren't available the following week.

I want to avoid falling out with the captain but also don't really fancy another away trek and feel like I am being taken for a mug.

Cheers guys.

Not on never agreed with  dropping players to accommodate so called stars in particular ones who pick there matches no need to fall out with  the Captain If you feel strongly you are being used just say you cannot play no need to explain yourself they will get the message otherwise you could set a president.

I was one for always showing willing and traveling for away games when I was younger for 4 or 5 weeks in a row. The way I seen it is, good commitment to the team is just as good and more important to the team then star players floating in when they like. Id personally travel as I like to think the commitment wont go unnoticed and hopefully would lead to secure a run in the side both home and away.

You either want play in the higher team or you don't. Make runs or take wickets and getting dropped should be a non-issue. If you're just happy playing in a lower team talk to your captain or selectors about staying in one team for the season regardless of availabilities in higher teams.

Yes Shaun there's nothing wrong with commitment it only becomes a problem when it's taken for granted and abused.

Hard to say really, how did you go in your last match etc.?

Time to knuckle down and earn a permanent spot in the team  ;)

Just to clarify.

I have been in the team the whole season, this is the first time I have been dropped down in the last two years.

Last match I was 3rd highest scorer and normally I keep but chose to let another player as he didn't get any runs.

I am fully committed to playing and want to play at the highest level possible and am happy to travel.

I just can't accept being dropped, especially for the reasons noted above.

But it's not a non issue is it if it's unsettling and you feel you are being taken for a mug.

I'd suggest having a word with the captain about it. Sometimes it needs pointing out to them that they're dropping players who are doing well, if it doesn't get sorted then just go score a ton of runs in a lower side.

No point being the one taken for a mug just because 'stars' can't be bothered to travel etc.. This utter tosh about lvl is laughable at amateur level, just play where you get a game and don't get abused by capts/clubs. At the end of the day you pay to play, so shouldn't get dropped for players who opt in and out, let the skipper know that he needs to pick those who turn up each week and not the ones who pick and choose

So you've been dropped for the first time in 2 seasons and now you're throwing your toys out of the pram.  Would be pretty pissed off if I was on the selection committee and I heard that from one of our guys.

Don't think it's much to do with being dropped more to do with the reasons for it.

It is hard to pass judgement. The other players that came in where they Uni boys who have just come back?

Have they been at the club for long enough to warrant going straight in the team based on their ability?
