Title: Next season
Post by: noelfitz99 on August 05, 2015, 04:26:45 PM
I'm 16 and I only took up pace bowling this year. I bowl around 55-57mph and I'm about 6ft. I dont have a good run up, my action isn't great so I was wondering does anyone know any good(free) programmmes for getting quicker and becoming a better bowler as I really want to improve and I want to train hard

Watch youtube videos I guess, you'd be hard pushed to find someone willing to coach you for free. Maybe someone at your club might?

You could watch videos but ideally you need someone to work with you And offer advice is there a club by you which has a bowling coach and will allow you to join in most
Clubs are usually keen to encourage young players.

The best way to improve your bowling is to bowl!

Experiment with run ups until you find one that feels natural and go from there. The most important thing is to keep running through the crease after you bowl, not stop in your delivery stride, which is what a lot of young/new/inexperienced pace bowlers do. This is a waste of energy and reduces your pace

Look up the ultimate pace foundation and @Ian Pont on YouTube. Lots of good stuff he can teach you.

Before worrying too much about your run up. sort out your bowling action first then go backwards (as in lengthening your run up). When I was your age, I used to run up then almost stop before sending down some quite mediocre medium pace deliveries. Somebody once pointed this out to me so I experimented in net sessions and found I could bowl far quicker off 2-3 strides (than 10+ I was previously taking) because I was far better balanced when I hit the crease. Another tip following on from this is it not how fast you bowl but where you put it. Bowling 10mph, 15mph or even 20mph quicker is pointless if you can't control your line and/or length.
