Title: Cricket World Competition bat...
Post by: Buzz on August 12, 2015, 09:02:25 AM
There is no question walking home and seeing this waiting in the hall way is never bad news...

Especially when the label says it is from unicorn products... ;)  :D 8)

A little bit of history... A couple of Fridays ago (17th July) I was just finishing a cup of tea at work when I received a call from those kind and generous people at Cricket World.
They said congratulations you have won our July competition, would you like a GM Original bat of your choice. The Competition was to tell Cricket World by what margin did England win the last Ashes series at home, in 2013, visit the GM Bat Selector and enter the answer.

Now as many of you know I am a bit of a fan of GM kit. So after some considerable thought, I decided to accept the kind offer. (you can imagine how long that considerable thought lasted).

GM then sent me an email requesting I have a go at their famous bat selector (http://www.gm-cricket.com/pages/bat-selector/default.aspx (http://www.gm-cricket.com/pages/bat-selector/default.aspx)) and then let them know what the output was and they would make something up for me.

Now ever since I sold my 808 octane I have regretted it (http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=28693.msg451436#msg451436 (http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=28693.msg451436#msg451436)) so I then set about the bat selector answering the questions in the hope that my front foot smash technique would work with the bat selector.

Eventually after a couple of goes, I came up with (the answer I wanted) a GM Octane - pick up index 3.

GM accepted this and then I had to wait.... which is the worst thing ever... :)

That box is empty according to forum rules!

Well technically the box is empty now!!

A team mate had an octane with a 1 pick up which was a fair chunk smaller than what I was expecting - so I had a slight panic that GM had changed the shape a bit - however I needn't have feared - What I have received is massive, as hoped. It is also 2.11 on the scales, so punchy.

It picks up on weight - very similar to my Blank Bats hulk bat which is the same weight. But then both have relatively low middles.

As for ping - my kids were asleep when I got home last night, so I haven't tested it yet!!

In the mean time, here are a couple of appetite whetters - note that is is an L.E. not an Original which is a very pleasant surprise :)

Looks a good stick.

Be interesting to see the profile. My octane is pick up 4weight 2.14. But not what I'd call huge in terms of wood in it.
Title: Re: Cricket World Competition bat...
Post by: Buzz on August 12, 2015, 09:58:41 AM
well the shape will be the same but the difference in 3oz of wood between 2.14 and 2.11 is a lot of wood

What  that  bat  needs  is  a  net!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes it does

Wow...that looks like one awesome bat!!

Does a pick up index of 3 mean a very light pick up? Sorry I am not familiar with the GM pick up grading.

I'm no expert but I think 1 is the lightest pick up and 5 is the heaviest making 3 middle of the road

Here are a few more pics. It got a little ding in transit unfortunately.

However it does really go.... Am super pleased

Will do a video review when I can sneak a moment

Oh and if the handle looks unusual it is because I have double bound the bottom hand and I am using octopus grips at the moment

Fantastic stick Buzz, lucky sod getting a free OLE!

Since GM use the DXM, shouldn't it be exactly the same size as your team mates Octane?  I always thought every single GM DXM (in the same model) is exactly the same size!

I think my mate's bat was a little different, it was a replacement bat and I think it may have had a history he wasn't aware of... It was half t size if this and very light.

Lovely grainage. Looks like a belter. Nice win! (Loved the fact you manipulated the bat selector.)
