Post by: Topgun on August 22, 2015, 02:29:29 PM
Is it true that CA cricket bats dont last very long?

Mine is going 2 season strong and pings like a mot...........

I love my CA so much that I bought two more for next season. :D

You gotta take care of your bat...people let their bats go kinda like their bellies in their 30s and 40s.

Just like any bat if you knock your CA in properly and look after it then it will probably last.

Willow is a naturally variable product and hitting a cricket ball with it obviously creates a risk of breakage.

If you want a CA get one! They are good sticks.

Bought one for my Dad in 2010 and it's still going strong (and with a quick refurb still looks almost like new)

I really like their bats but the handles are pretty prone to breaking, and the stickers and always the first thing I remove!

Okay i made my mind up. GM Icon f7 original or the CA 15000 Players Edition

The CA won't be the weight it says on the sticker and may be lightly shorter and narrower than regulation.

The GM will be the exact same shape if you want to buy another one in the future due the the DXM manufacturing.
I'd personally go for a GM 808 as you'll get a decent bit of willow at a reasonable price, but if you have your heart set on the Original then go for it.

Icon has higher sweet spot than CA 15000..consider that part too
So icon will have better pickup but GM will take time to open as compared to CA
GM may last you longer than CA

Performance wise?

Down to you and the preparation you give it
If properly knocked in most bats will perform well

If you are buying online go for the GM.  The weight will be correct and you know exactly what shape you are getting. The variation in shape and size of the CAs is a big turn off.

If you are buying in-store, then swing them around and pick the one you like the most.

CA, hands down!

And, I have some good sticks but CAs start performing early (read: match readiness).

Match readiness?
The edges on their "fully knocked" bats make a samuri sword look blunt...

The trick is, if you are in the UK - to find a cheap source of genuine ones. (Feel free to let me know :))

What I mean is that the bats start performing very early after little knocking. Regarding edges, they are sharp and need rounding but I have never really bothered. I nicked a few time and edge needed sanding/oiling but that was that. No big deal. I try to hit the ball from the middle part of the bat, not edges.

I try to hit the ball using the middle of the bat, but the toe and edges seem to take the brunt of the impact...  :-[
