Title: Now my Red Ink Custom X3
Post by: avkrish on August 24, 2015, 08:34:49 AM
Had been planning to get a bat made by John since the beginning of the year; made my order after commencement of the current offer. Basis was the Symonds Super Tusker with some modifications with weight about 2lb 8 oz. Quite happy with what John has done, hope fellow forumites would also like this.

He must have seen the photos already; I am yet to hear from him though.

That is a reflex toe - looks epic! Well done with coming up with something as original and yet historic as this and well done to John!

Nice to see something so different from the modern profiles out there at the moment, great effort, hope it's got plenty of runs in it for you!

Looks really nice and a big thick bat for 2-8. How thick is the toe?

It is pretty well balanced and picks up well without feeling heavy

I have not measured but it should be somewhere around to 30 mm

That looks great. John, I hope you kept the "pattern", as I'm sure you'll get more orders for it!

That looks fantastic! I loved my Symonds Super Tusker. Sadly it fell apart too quickly. Red Ink bats looking very good. Also is X3 grade 3 willow? If so its far better than most of the bats I looked at yesterday that were being passed off as much higher grades.

I can certainly make more of these if anyone is interested. Was really nice working on something a bit different and it turned out really well.

Ahem,  good afternoon John, it is odds on that I shall be in touch - for this truly is the epic blade of an improper batsman.

I love it!

A really unique shape and a one I'm actually loving although personaly I'd have the shoulders a little more square but it's still a beaut, might be in touch for next season John

You know where I am!

The mark on the cleft came out during splicing, left a few marks on the back but reasonably nice face for a grade 3.

Check out the same topic in the Red Ink section. These are only going to run until the end of the month then the sale on bats is done. Going to keep the softs on offer but not the bats.

@Red Ink Cricket
will there be an end of season sale as I was hoping to buy a slightly discounted bat around Nov-Dec Time. Will there be a sale or even any clefts available?

There will always be clefts available. As for the sale, I have no idea at the moment. On sale or not, they are still at an amazing price!

I measured the toe after a reasonable amount of knocking in, it measures ~25 mm.

If I could afford more postage, the bat would have gone right back to John with a request to slope the shoulders a bit more. I prefer bats with sloped shoulders nowadays to the traditional square shouldered ones.

Yes, loved the Symonds Super Tusker, Duncan Fearnley Super Magnum & the shoulderless Slazenger during my school & college days, but could not afford them then. Now, thanks to the Forum and Sponsors, I am able to get a few of these shapes made (with some modifications).

I was limited on how much I could slope the shoulders to keep it within weight as it wasn't part of the original request. Any further bats you have done can be sloped more if needed

Nice looking bat there. I've got a poster somewhere at home of Steve Waugh with a Symonds Tusker.

I also was not sure about extent of sloping to be done because of the scooping near the splice and the flat toe. I recollect asking for only a slight sloping on this and that is what you have done.
