Title: GM Octane 808 for £117.
Post by: mvclayton on August 26, 2015, 01:22:04 PM
Hi All,

Just a bit of consumer advice, I was messing around on GM website earlier today and I clicked on their bat engraver section just to be nosey. Seems if you select the Octane 808 SH and put a random generic engrave on it or whatever you want engraved they are selling for £117 directly. Not sure if they have too many in stock or if it's a price glitch. Only ordered today so obviously I haven't received it yet but I thought it was a really good price and would let everyone know.

I didn't know that GM was directly selling on their website. Will have to checkout.

Seems a great deal, especially if you just engraved something like a full stop so as not to personalise it too much if you ever moved it on!

What's more interesting me is you pick your weight. Not the GM batting index.

240 for a 909 aura so not all cheap.

£112 plus £5 delivery, I tried a selection of the other models but they seem to come up normal retail price. It looks like these are the only things you can buy directly. My guess is someone has put the 606 price up for the 808.

I have always loved these bats but nobody ever seems to sell them for a decent price - that's probably a sign that they are decent sticks too!!
So I just hope they honour the price!

There is still the 808 for the Octane for weights between 2'10 and 3lb from the options! So I am assuming that they are still available?

Post by: smilley792 on August 27, 2015, 08:15:18 AM
I'm sad with time on my hands. So clicked them all. There was only ever the octane available in 808.

Plus in general the 808 was only on a few select bats.

I've just given them a call and asked to make sure the weight was 2lb10oz fishing to see if they were going to flag it up and they said delivery would be 2-3 weeks as they make these from scratch so I'm going with a hopeful yes.

IO presume they only have over 2'10 left in stock.

Cad profile is the same regardless. Which means the mass in the bat can only achieve between 2.10 and 3lb.

You'd probably need a very very light cleft for a 2.8 which wouldn't be a 808.

I've had an octane 808 before that was 2:8 and huge, GM grading can be a bit strange sometimes so you might be lucky

If what we were told about the DMX process was correct, then shouldn't they all be the same size?

same here, anyone who has picked up one of these(presuming they are received ok) has got a good deal

my mates is 2.7oz and massive. surface cracks all over the shop in the first year, back to GM, and they did a refurb FOC.....

great service from GM......

For some reason I have always wanted one (love the profile!) but never actually got around to making the purchase........probably due to other bats coming along at the same time!
So this has been fate for me. Last chance to get a new one possibly before they discontinue or replace the model?

Are the handle oval or round in GM bats?

GM bats - Made in UK are mostly oval handle ones. I have seen GM bats (licensed to make in india) which sport round handles. But i believe those are restricted for sales in India & sub-continent only.

As I ordered first you may not have had an email yet, but I just received one from them saying delivery will be in 4 weeks and giving me the option to cancel which I declined. So looks like the price and the bat will be honoured and tbf I'm quite happy to wait 4 weeks as its a bit of a bargain.

Not a bad thing, Mike Hussey said that lighter grains are what he prefers, as he finds the wood a little softer, which is to his liking. :D

That is just our system for date stamping the time the bat was made and has nothing to do with grading

Decided to pick one of these up, seemed silly for the price, if I don't like it or so done at start of season wants a deal can always easily recoup the cost ( although my engraving may not have helped lol) . Just got to wait for it to arrive, 2.10 ordered.

I jumped in over the weekend and ordered one - actually for my lad not me. However, got an e-mail Monday morning saying the order had been cancelled with no explanation as to why. Checked their website, and orders could still be made. Gave them a ring and was told this was because they had now moved over from 2015 bats to 2016 bats... as such I was advised to re-order, which I did. Interesting... does anyone know if the stickers are different between the 2015 & 2016 models? Not that it really matters... I ordered a 2.10 with rather classy engraving if I say so myself.

That's a shame, I don't quite understand why its taken them this long to realise to be honest - seems odd that they would send any out if it is indeed an error.

Yes indeed - same with my (second) order.... rather poor customer service, etc. Messing folks about through what is basically an error on their part. Good luck to the guys that managed to bag a bargain. Not devastated because we didn't need another bat.... I realise the last part of that sentence is offensive on this forum! Worry not, got a nice 2 9 Python Grade2 on its way... Can't resist an end of season bargain.

It might just be that they had some bats made and sitting there, so had a clear-out. Once gone no need to make anymore...those who got their bats, good for them. Those who didn't, there'll be other sales. When you go to a store to buy stuff thats on sale and find out they are all sold out even though the sign outside still says big sale on now you don't say bad customer service or do you?

I don't know how many great deals I have missed out on but there's always another one around the corner..
