Title: Best cup - protection
Post by: kaartman on August 28, 2015, 01:35:42 PM
I use GM cup..it looks sturdy. The other day I was hit in the nuts ....it was pain full. Just wondering if there is something that would provide absolute protection.

The box is essentially a soap dish with some padding so it doesn't dig in, it's never going to provide 100% protection!

It's crazy to think all the advancements there have been in protective equipment over the years that the bit to protect your thinking apparatus is still nothing more than a badly shaped bit of plastic...

I am not sure if Titan Alloy cup is better than Ultra Carbon cup! Carbon cup seems to have an extra layer ..may be less shock.

Thanks to this forum ive just bought a shock doctor mma protector(!).
Fed up with getting whacked in the plums and going down like a sack of spuds
Hope this bit of kit does the trick!

I wear both shock doctor shorts and cup but I've never been totally happy with the fit. Too narrow and the rubber sticks like glue while inserting it.

Much happier with Aero shorts and cup. The quicks I face are not pro level but I've never had a problem. Had to shake them a few times but that's it.

Getting the Shock doctor in and out is a nightmare, I just leave it in my jockstrap the whole time, is a different level of protection of you do take one amidships though.

Maybe we should encourage Ayrtek to develop A.C.I.S for our thinking equipment.

If someone would be kind enough to do the mallet test with different cups and report back that would be appreciated  :D
Unfortunately I'm unable to take part in this trial, in case of catastrophic failure as I still wish to use my protected jewels.

Aero box here, don't fit particularly well in my Gray-Nics briefs on first testing, but OK enough.

I've been wearing shock doctor for years. Good protection but do find it narrow in the ball region

Just a piece of advice from recent incident in National Team of Finland trials where my younger brother was bowling and the ball hit the batsman right at the nuts shattering his cup into pieces even after an hour he was still taking out cup pieces from around his ass but luckily he had no injury at all. I assume the pace was around 75-80mph. The cup shattered just because it was gone old and mostly the plastic deteriorate by time in the storage in hot days so i suggest changing the cup every year or other . By the way it was GN cup bought from Australia.
Lately i am also leaning towards to try shock doctor cup.

I've suffered many hits in the nuts and for the last two years I've had a shock doctor and it had made the blows a lot less painful, they are worth every penny!!!

I got struck on sat! Was only medium pace but didn't feel it at all. However the plastic seems to have fractured, rather than cracked

Shock Doctor hands down.

Although I feel they are little soft on the sides, which means a non-flush hit could potentially cause some damage, as Ross Taylor found out in Zimbabwe.

If I said that I've been working on a new box for the last 2 years and the patent has just gone through, it also passes the mallet test (well, not quite as enthusiastically!) and fits soo much better than others ) also that it will be coming out next year hopefully this will be a much more sensible solution !

no wussing out we want a full mallet test video to prove it works

I just can't believe you aren't prepared to stand in front of a bowling machine and have balls fired into your nuts at 90mph. are you a man or mouse?

He's a man now but would probably be a mouse after the testing

By a mouse, do you mean that he would be reduced to a very high pitched squeak?

How about these bad boys? There's a lot of options out there if you search for MMA protection.

how does that help?

how does that help?

Test it for yourself, do a mallet test without one, then work yourself way up until you've got 3 taped together.

Its basic physics really, more layers of protection = more shock absortion/dispersion (and as a result, less pain!)

ah ok..i thought they were trying to expand coverage. I find the aero one to be really good, but it really only fits well into the aero shorts.
