Title: Old bats
Post by: thedon on September 09, 2015, 07:38:57 PM
Simple question...do bats die after a while?? I've seen guys using ancient bats and performing well, whilst I've read that a bat has x amount of runs in it?

Depends on how you look after it and how well the bat is pressed. If the bat is pressed well, it will last for ages  :)

I think some of the older bats possibly last better because they were pressed to last several seasons with quite heavy use. I'm not so sure that this is the case now.

I have a vintage SS Turbo bat from the early 90's and it has got better and better. It's face looks a bit like crazy paving but there is no de lamination.  it has been very well looked after and is sanded and re-oiled every season regardless of the amount of use it had. Although it's performance is genuinely fantastic, It was a bit of a plank when it was new (pressed hard). It was my only bat for 20 years. I also know of an old DF Magnum which is also a right gun. It is browner than David Dickinson.
