Bought a 2nd hand bat online from UK which I've done quite few times had 'no problems'
until today Quarantine Australia rang, told the wifey they require A$180
for treatment?WTF
Wifey told them to speak to me they left a number to ring which I finished work their closed ring tomorrow
Thought I'd see any blokes got any advice before I ring?
-
well unless its got wood worm not sure why it would be in quarantine

Is @Vic Nicholas working in Customs these days?

never heard of it for a cricket bat before but I work in exports and any wood products into Australia need the wood treated in advance of sending to show it's free from bugs or any diseases, it's been a regulation for a long time.
this normally means any packing for the product has a forestry stamp on it to prove it's been fumigated.
there may be an alternative treatment for an actual cricket bat but it's a pretty strict regulation......
-
might be wrong but it Seems to me that your bat has been quarantined and they are going to treat it with a fungicide ( Methli Bromide ?) and maybe issue you a fumigation certificate
-
Interesting. I've never experienced this with my imports in the past.
-
Who was it shipped with?
DHL always try to scew you for a quarantine fee (which you can just refuse to pay and they won't pursue it).
Have never had an issue with any of the other carriers.

Indeed.
Singaporean and Malaysian agents work damn hard. Even in China I saw agent clocking up unbelievable hours.
