Hi All
Sat in the office, looking at the rain and daydreaming about the now ended cricket season!
Random question that's popped into my head, what is the most popular "big" brand?
I know we love a boutique brand on CBF, but the majority of casual players will buy a brand they have seen on the tellybox.
What is your favourite big brand? Poll included in this thread but discussion is encouraged! ;)
-
I've Selected other, Newbery. Not unsure if you would class this as a big brand however.
-
I voted for Puma - I love their softs. Not a huge fan of any of the major brands bats... I've never had the cash to get a top end one!
-
Gone for NB, seen a few of their sticks and they really seem to go, grading is pretty generous and the softs are (in my opinion) some of the best out there.
The Orange/Black & Red/Yellow colours however, are vomit inducing.
-
Gray nics and gunn and Moore are brands I always seem to return to.
Gray nics being the one I own most gear from, and shall buy more.
-
never been tempted to use any of the 'Big Brands' for any of my kit (exc spikes) for at least 10 - 12 years. Think I had a Kook when I was about 14.
If I was to look at using one now it would probably be GM or GN
-
Before I went custom I was a GN man, Ultimate, Millennium, Powerbow, Longbow, Xiphos. Never had a bad one
-
I don't really have a favorite brand (big or small)
But in generally
Bats - I like GM ones from all the big brands.
Softs - I have a soft spot for Newbury
-
Used, Slazenger, GM, Adidas and Gray Nics bats before. Out of all of those I'd probably say Gray Nics were the best.
I've had softs from GM and Gray Nics before and must say the Gray Nics have been disappointing (had gloves split after the first use and a pair of Powerbow Players Pads split badly down one of the canes after only a few uses) so they don't fill me with much confidence. Maybe I just got unlucky with those! :(
-
Puma sorts and gm for bats.
-
My kit is a bit of a mix at the moment but the majority is Gunn & Moore, I've always preffered their softs thanks to the generous sizing (meaning I can get youth sized in their pads/gloves) and their ability to last for what feels like forever.
-
Bats - SS/TON
Softs - SS/TON
-
Haven't used any big brands for about 20 years. I have used Newbery and Salix though, but usually prefer smaller brands. I voted for GN as I've always liked the look of their softs and looking to get a GN bat this year.
-
GN and Hunts for me. Currently have a Dynadrive and Scoop, and will get a GN500 and love the old Hunts and some of the new...

Newbery is an interesting one. Well known yes, but not a big brand as such. To qualify as a big brand I was thinking something Joe Public would buy because "so and so used it on the telly, I'll buy one like that"

I didn't include Hunts, as much as I love them they're hardly known any more. That's a real shame as they make excellent sticks.

I was actually put off buying a Hunts this year because of their lack of presence so I can definitely see where you're coming from there.

had 2 superb hunts bats ==== insignia and reflex
only big brand i used other than slazenger v500 when i was a kid. who used to make the old slazengers?
-
Went for GN as for me when you talk big brand they are the BIG brands most often seen on TV I would say plus iv never had a bad one.
-
I went for GM - close between a couple of the brands. But the softs made GM that little more special
-
GM softs are why I went for them - but I really love the interaction you get from the GN workshop and their bats are magnificent, as are Hunts and Newbery and Ton and SG and oh...
-
I voted kookaburra, not a popular choice round these parts, but I've had 2 kahunas off of Jake that have been guns . I also bought a couple of kahunas and a ricochet of forum members which i ended up selling to club mates which have all been guns, tbh i haven't see a bad one. The softs are lovely to ive got kahuna players which are the best ive worn. Another club mate recently bought a verve off jske which also pings. The high standard of performance seem consistent across the range from my small sample.

Eric Loxton used to run the Slazenger bat making plant for...... Slazenger.
I have a Few Loxtons.

Grew up with GM, always had a soft spot for Gray Nics.
Now with B3 for bats, GN pads GM gloves.
Decided never to buy a big brand bat again, want to support small independent companies.
Voted for GN always wanted a powerspot
-
i went for GN as i have a couple of their bats.
i use H4L bat and gloves and puma pads. i love puma softs though and will definitely be getting some more.
-
GN for me as when I was young the aussie batsmen I liked used them. The gear I've had from them has been good. To be fair most of the top end softs are good and it is up to the colour and style to float your boat.
-
From my very limited experience
Bats: Laver & Wood
Gloves: Puma
Pads: Tie between Puma & GN
-
I'm torn because I have a Kookaburra Kahuna which is a gun but I'd vote GN because although I've never actually owned any of their gear, them or Ton are the only two on that list that I find I consistently lust after haha
-
Chose SS/TON due to the love of my current match bat which is the best thing I've ever used.
I have a soft spot for GMs and Maliks though....
-
I picked GM as the bat and softs have lasted for ages for me and its decent quality (so much so I've sent my 10 year old Hero to get refurb'd as its still a gun), however my opinion might change since getting this Spartan stuff.
-
For me its Newbery, closely followed by GM.
When I was young it was Duncan Fearnley only.
-
Until this year i'd have said Kookaburra, however after getting a GM this season I've changed.
-
I really like GM softs, not had a bat from them since I was a junior. I best bat I ever had was a Slazenger v600 from the seconds bin circa 2000.
-
GM for English bat maker and SS for Indian bat maker.
-
Bats - CA
-
Gray-Nicolls for me. Had my best 3 seasons with a Gray-Nicolls bat and always been a big fan of their softs.
-
Never really impressed by any Big Brands except for a couple GM bats and an SS TON L.E.
I know that my least favorite in the big brands is Kookaburra. I don't get along with any of their merchandise.
-
Definitely SS but the prices have been rising exponentially of anything they produce. In the same time, I have found the softs of SF to be equally good as SS softs. Have to try a bat though.

One of the black Puma bat I saw on the net was listed for $1500.00 plus tax and shipping..... talk about high prices in buying a bat without even holding it.
I asked myself, what if I still don't make runs with it?
This helped me get it off my mind.
-
Bats from SS/TON and softs from SG and SS.
-
47 years using GN cost me a fortune.
