Title: Let's see what a refurb does
Post by: WalkingWicket37 on September 18, 2015, 08:31:56 PM
Evening guys

I've got a teammates bat for a refurb. I've already sealed a crack going across the toe, and now have to get the bat looking nice again.

Here are some pictures of the bat in its current state (no pictures before I did the toe).
I'll post some pictures once done, but I'm interested to see what difference a refurb will make to the weight.

P.S can anyone guess what it is/was?

Looking at it surprised when the  scales showed the wieght as  can't see where all the wood is for it to be 3lb.

If you picked it up you wouldn't be surprised mate, it feels like a railway sleeper!

No correct guesses yet,it's a slightly older stick (and obvious before the days people wanted big bats in a light weight!)

Aargh. So jealous. Look need to make heavy bats in Laguna shape again instead of there ridicolous shapes.

I went for a very light refurb because 1) the bats owner won't pay for a drink, let alone a bat refurb and 2) other than the toe damage there was nothing wrong with the bat.

I used my orbital sander to get the whole bat back to white willow, then hand sanded using 400 grit to finish.
A new grip and a coat of oil later, this is the end result  :)

I couldn't decide if it was worth doing or not, and as I'm doing it for free went for the not option!

That'd be the way to get the weight down though, sand a few inches off the toe before I give it back  ;)

Don't blame you if its for free!

I find the toe a tricky one to refurbish to a high standard. You can quite easily end up taking too much off it looking for a good finish.
