A chance to join 3 other CBF members at Ashorne CC (do I need to sell it further?). We have a lovely ground set in rural warwickshire and near Coventry/Lemaington/Warwick/Banbury/Stratford/South Birmingham areas. We currently play a decent standard in Cotsworld Hills League Div 3 and also play Sunday friendlies. Most of the venues we play at are pretty nice as are the oppo, very few idiots in our league. We have decent facilities, private ground, clubhouse, fixed/mobile nets, sightscreens, covers, with more developments in the pipline. A club on the up but we need more CBF members to join so we can compare super, super willow ;-)

you paying? :)
I could however sort us out a couple of friendlies next season if you want though?

A some of you are aware, I moved clubs to join Ashorne this year. Great bunch of lads to play with and a beautiful home ground. It feels like I've been there much more than a season. As Nick has said, there is lots we can offer and as a club we are looking to develop and improve things further both on and off the field. Plus I need someone else to join that has more kit than me (as I seem to have taken that mantle of @19reading87 much to his relief!), so they can take the stick off the rest of the lads :D
-
Chris you have more kit than GM!
-
I work around those areas.
Had to take the car as my van is in for mot.
The 30quid fuel bill probably means it's not a viable move for me. Shame as I want to move somewhere!

Boo. 42 miles one way is unfortunately a step too far,

Not that far and it depends where you live, many of the away games could be pretty close by. Drop myself or @19reading87 a PM and we'll have a chat.

Sadly that's the first question I'm asked when looking for new players! Don't quality of Cricket and facilities mean anything anymore??

I'm kidding fella, wouldn't take cash to play the game even if it was offered (as it happens, I've been offered some for 2016 but turned it down instantly as I have no interest in being part of a club that feels the need to pay)
secondly, I'm crap.. never going to be a pro so am undeserving of money. At 32 I'm at a point where facilities and sheer enjoyment (so the lads and my game) are becoming more attractive than level. ONly reason I'm sticking with level is purely I've only been playing 5years so want to experience as high as I can in the glos area. only 1 div between us as WEPL prem

I was exactly the same, when I played in the Birmingham league many years ago I was asked....HAHA was the reply. Never taken a penny out of the game and a shame that many who do sadly aren't good enough. If clubs will pay though who can really blame the players?

Where do you guys net over the winter period ?

Kenilworth Wardens - are you local?

Sorry, never saw this comment. Adi knows we don't pay but we'll catch up on the friendlies ;-)
General comment on players getting paid - happens more up north than down south and many of the players getting paid aren't good enough to get in most 1st XI at a decent standard. I've known Minor County players not take a penny even though they could, because they love the club and I think that's how it should be. If a club pays you then it can't do something else - redecoration, repair, improvements, coaching etc. If the chairman is funding it then it's a timebomb, his money stops and the club drops several divisions. Either way it's a lose lose for the club in the long term.

I'm in Birmingham so I guess not that local ?

South Birmingham is pretty local to us and away games.

go and create your own thread ;)
Just a reminder that Ashorne is like playing in a real life forum - we have 4 forum members and plenty of willow talk. We are working non-stop to turn Ashorne into a great club to play at, even better than it is now. If you are living in the area, why not get in touch?

And captained by a forum member so bat talk is allowed ;)

Can agree that Ashorne is a lovely place to play and it really is a club that I've witnessed improve massively over the near decade I've been playing against them.
Always have to love a proper village team with unique local rules and Ashorne is no different, hit the ball into the Lords(?) garden and you're not allowed it back so have to use a spare, plus they have that classic tree traditionally inside the boundary!

We don't pay players, can't afford to. If it's payment in crisps, I'm sure we can come to some arrangement ;)
