Title: Help/opinions needed in buying a new G1+ bat!
Post by: sshah on October 16, 2015, 10:18:46 AM
Hey guys, I'm new on this website, quite like it from what I've been reading across various posts.

I play cricket in England and I am looking to get a G1+ bat before the start of indoor nets around January in 2016.

I've been looking at some particular bats online and want to know your general opinions about them and if any of you have had them personally or seen others use them.

The bats I'm interested in so far are:

Kookaburra Verve Players 2015 Model (I've personally had lot of kookaburra bats over the years so I prefer bats that are wider in terms of shape but I'm open to try new bats and with english conditions slow low wickets I prefer a low or mid-low middle which this Verve has)

Salix SLX Players Bat 2015 (I have been reading Salix bats are generally really good in terms of performance and pick up. I really want a bat that will perform extremely well)

Spartan CG Authority Bat 2015 (I like the full profile of this bat which is it's in my list but not sure about pick up and performance)

Gray Nicolls Oblivion e41 Test 2015 (I generally like gray nicolls but I do not like the concaving on this particular model but because of the price, mid-low middle and quality of willow I'm thinking about it)

Other possible G1 choices:

Salix PRAESTANTIA Grade One 2015 Bat (Low middle)

Kookaburra Cadejo 1100 2015 Bat (Big bat but bit heavy pick up wise which I'm not used to but not a big issue)

These are just some of the bats I'm looking at so if you guys have any opinions and experiences of any of these bats please let me know. Thanks  :)

I bought a repaired Oblivion E41 LE from here and it feel lovely tapping it up.
Pickup is nice, and performance seems as good as any bat (full or concaved) that I've used

We have a CG Authority bat in stock now, and it's on End of Season sale price, so pretty good value! http://www.itsjustcricket.co.uk/cricket-bats-c17/senior-cricket-bats-c18/spartan-cg-authority-cricket-bat-p1296 (http://www.itsjustcricket.co.uk/cricket-bats-c17/senior-cricket-bats-c18/spartan-cg-authority-cricket-bat-p1296)

It goes like a train off the mallet and has appeared in a previous "Top 5 Bats in our Store" video of mine.  How it hasn't sold yet I've no idea!!

But we could handpick any of the other bats you mention too, and are going to Salix on Thursday...

I would actually recommend a H4L Warbird Pro! Having used a G2 last night, it went like an absolute rocket and was immaculately balanced. :) I think IJC and Vitas sell these, and both (And a large portion of the forum) can vouch for their quality!

You won't go wrong with either of the Salix bats that you've picked. I've used a few Salix bats in the past and I'm always impressed by their quality.

Sometimes the make and model really doesn't matter.

What matters is what feels good in your hands.

A $50 bat may feel better than a $500. So you need to pickup the bat and see how it feels rather than falling for marketting gimmicks like "Pro" - G1 +++ , warrior, blade,  Reserve Edition etc

I had an older Salix Praestantia G1. tHat was a beautiful bat and performed brilliantly. I have found the newer Salix bats to have quite a large bow which some people, including me, don't like. hOwever, of the 4 options listed I would go for a Salix over the others without a shadow of doubt.
yOu could consider a Hell 4 leather, Mine performs superbly and from what I've heard so do other people's.

A lot of very good options have been mentioned, but if it was my money I'd get in touch with Jake @Vitas Cricket .

He can sort you out with a custom G1 which includes a factory visit which is outstanding value for money. If you feel you need a G1+ he can also sort you out with one when they are available. These are the pro/crown/oversized clefts which are highly prized. I know how good they are because I have two.

What you pay for is the custom bat and custom service. No extra is charged for hype because there isn't any.

Thanks for all the replies and information. I wanted to get a bat at a much cheaper rate in end of season sale which I still might but I'm most probably going to wait for a month or so until lot of the new 2016 range of bats have come out and I might visit some of the stores to try out few bats. Hell4Leather, Salix, Kookaburra or TON are probably going to be my preferred options. Btw has anyone used or seen others use the new TON Reserve Edition or Players Edition bats? What do you think about TON bats in general?

Having extensively used them, SS ton bats are really good and need minimal preparation to come alive . However some have had experience of their bats breaking early. However, i normally tend to oil properly my bats before i start using them and have nothing but good words for SS/Ton.
