Surely this can't be helping?!

As long as you dont smash it with it there is no reason why you cant use a hammer like that - can be good especially for the edges and toe......plus it knocks in the bat quicker. This would be very similar to using a lignum vitae mallet (which is much much denser and harder than your average wooden mallet)

Hmmm.. Surely 1 hit two many and the bat will crack?
Title: Re: Sewag's Knocking In?!!
Post by: slogger02 on December 17, 2009, 03:43:50 PM
it will only crack if you hit it too hard. the bats not just going to crack because youve hit it once more than it needs.

I had heard that Tim at NEwbery used to knock in the bats in a similar way.......I have knocked in a bat like that, but with a slightly bigger hammer and it works if done carefully. Took me 30 minutes to knock-in the bat and it played really well.

Only con is that you may get some very circular marks, but these can be made to disappear by rubbing the bat against the round edge on a bath tub or a ceramic wash basin......

Think Bill at Fusion did it on one of my old bats also.

Can I see a pic of your bat please? Because I might use this technique, but I'm a bit skeptical.

Do not have that bat with me know as I did it last season... but it works just be a bit patient and use common sense afer the first few knocks in understanding with what intensity to hit the hammer. Intensity to knock the middle will be less than that on the edges and toe...

best using a cobblers hammer as it a rounded head, bit dodgy using a flat headed hammer but then again if sehwag cracks it,it doesn't really matter to him

Even so, I think anyone else would get pulled up for going off topic but oh no its "Tom" ...  Don't get me wrong, Ayrtek has paid to advertise, Tom at Mongoose hasn't?
Title: Re: Sewag's Knocking In?!!

I set up this forum and it wouldn't be here without me. Worth considering perhaps and maybe a bit of leeway should be allowed? If not delete it and I'll get over it, 500 max see this forum so it's not a huge loss if I don't post on here anymore.
Title: Re: Sewag's Knocking In?!!
Post by: jandgcricket on December 18, 2009, 01:37:37 AM
I just think its unfair on the paying advertisers...And going off topic.
Title: Re: Sewag's Knocking In?!!
Post by: Tom on December 18, 2009, 01:38:58 AM
Not really your business but if it causes a huge issue then Leo/other mods can PM me and let me know.

Know most of the paying advertisers and they also have my details if there's an issue. But you seem intent on making a mountain out of a molehill
Title: Re: Sewag's Knocking In?!!
Post by: jandgcricket on December 18, 2009, 01:41:12 AM
I think its everyones business?  All posts on the forum are everyones business, without posts there wouldn't be a forum.  Nevermind, I don't think your ever lose an argument, so i'll sit back and watch the snow out my window.
Title: Re: Sewag's Knocking In?!!
Post by: Tom on December 18, 2009, 01:43:35 AM
You don't know the dealings what goes on between CB, Leo, myself and any other paying advertiser. So no it's not really your business.

Off-topic perhaps is and I accept it was a little, but you're not exactly doing your best to get it back on topic.
Title: Re: Sewag's Knocking In?!!
Post by: jandgcricket on December 18, 2009, 01:45:36 AM
Well if I/admins/anyone didn't police anyone going of topic, then people would do it all the time?  Just think you should be setting an example...Of all people.
Title: Re: Sewag's Knocking In?!!
Post by: Tom on December 18, 2009, 01:49:56 AM
You do a hell of a lot of "just thinking"

If you're pulling me up for posting off topic fair enough, but there seems to be something more in your argument. I quote "I just think its unfair on the paying advertisers...And going off topic." From that it seems like your main issue was the advertising side, which as I have said earlier has very little to do with you.

So question, are you peed off I posted something off topic? Or is there a further ulterior motive?

Title: Re: Sewag's Knocking In?!!
Post by: jandgcricket on December 18, 2009, 01:53:09 AM
As I said, I think you should be setting an example.  Its late, it took me a while to come up with that bit but basically yeah just believe you should set a good example, you know all the rules.  As you said you did say you set up the forum...

Title: Re: Sewag's Knocking In?!!
Post by: Tom on December 18, 2009, 01:56:23 AM
And I haven't set an example for the last 1600 odd posts I've posted on here? I haven't set an example and assisted people when they've needed it?

Christ mate it's one post. I look forward to you nitpicking all my future posts, making sure I stay 100% on topic and don't mention the word Mongoose in fear of offending anyone. Perhaps you could spend more time admining CSF in a similar manner, that could do with it more than here and you as an admin seem to be a bit slack on there.
Title: Re: Sewag's Knocking In?!!
Post by: jandgcricket on December 18, 2009, 02:03:00 AM
Considering you said we should give you some slack for going a tad off topic (Because you set up the forum) and now then saying you basically haven't gone by the rules for the past 1600 odd posts is a bit contradictory.

Nevermind, we are achieving absolutely nothing here at this ridiculous hour.  So if you want to carry on, I'll happily clog up the topic if its okay by the "owner".
Title: Re: Sewag's Knocking In?!!
Post by: Tom on December 18, 2009, 02:05:07 AM
I was referring to the advertising issue earlier when the reference was made to the creation of the forum.

And for the past 1600 posts I would say I have gone by the rules, unless of course you wish to check through my previous posts and say otherwise. You seem desperate to find fault with me.
Title: Re: Sewag's Knocking In?!!
Post by: jandgcricket on December 18, 2009, 02:07:44 AM
Hang on, you've just said:

"And I haven't set an example for the last 1600 odd posts I've posted on here?"

And then a post later:

"And for the past 1600 posts I would say I have gone by the rules,"

I'd say going by the rules and setting an example is pretty much the same in my dodgy eyes.
Title: Re: Sewag's Knocking In?!!
Post by: Tom on December 18, 2009, 02:09:43 AM
The first is a rhetorical question, questioning the fact that you believe I am not setting an example whereas I believe I have done.

Perhaps it wasn't the best use of the English language to get the point across, so at least now you can say you've found one fault with me.
Title: Re: Sewag's Knocking In?!!
Post by: jandgcricket on December 18, 2009, 02:11:16 AM
Okay rhetorical questions and sarcasm are hard to detect over the internet...
Title: Re: Sewag's Knocking In?!!
Post by: Tom on December 18, 2009, 02:15:47 AM
Another fault of mine then?

So for my forum New Years Resolutions I have...

- Do not post anything off topic
- Denote sarcasm and rhetorical questions for the benefit of jandgcricket
- Do not mention Mongoose in fear of upsetting paid advertisers
- Make better use of the English language to get a point across.

Any more whilst I'm here Gareth?

Please note as per NY resolution point 2 this is purely satire and will not actually be my New Years resolutions
Title: Re: Sewag's Knocking In?!!

And in reply to your "edited" post:

No-ones perfect, just think you should be setting an example. Also keeping to the forum rules.

Added and noted, glad you found fault with me. I've been trying to find flaws in myself for the past couple of years, but have struggled.

Your NY resolution should be:

- Do not work for (No Swearing Please) cricket bat companies.

Title: Re: Sewag's Knocking In?!!
Post by: SillyShilly on December 18, 2009, 11:21:26 AM
they dont sell them in shops that i have been into - they're difficult to get hold of.
I've seen a few up at Newbery and  i know they use them at m&h and at the county ground shop in somerset - will knock your bat in within 15-20 mins.......but you can just use the coopers hammer, this lignum wood is almost as hard as steel (or so they say!)

Yuvraj would be perfect for a Mongoose Bat!

Tom would like to you rephrase your statement - Mongoose would be the perfect bat for Yuvi!!!

The problem for Mongoose is the huge amounts that Reebok and SS pay to some of the biggies from India and SL. Even if they use a Mongoose they will resticker it as a SS or Reebok.

Its quite risky doing it, but im sure whoever you got the bat from will be more than happy to replace if the face has clearly been continously whacked with a mallet.
