Title: repair problems. Expert advice needed
Post by: Gurujames on October 21, 2015, 11:05:19 AM
mY old Salix 'the edge', weighs 2.6 and has a beautiful middle. there was a hollow sound coming from beneath the stickers so I pulled the stickers off expecting to find some minor delamination. However there was no cracking on the surface.
The hollow sound starts at the base of the splice and goes for about 100mm down the face of the bat to the bottom of the stickers. (It has nothing to do with the surface crack below the problem area). The handle is solid in the splice.
Does anyone have any idea how to repair this. I think it is delaminated beneath the surface and there is no crack through which I can inject glue.
Cheers

I would keep on using it keeping an eye to see when it opens up. I think it is a case of making it worse before making it better.

Once the cracks appear - open them up get get as much glue in there as possible, clamp and let it dry. never seen a bat delaminate that far up the blade however.

Thanks for that. I thought that may be the answer. Hate having that broken bat sound. Have to go after it with the mallet then. Better warn the neighbours.
Sanded the face a little and glued a small crack. Bit more sanding needed

Should I remove all stickers?

I'd keep the stickers on.

Cover them up with masking tape and then sand the rest of the back
