I can't see how that handle could have been usable after that kind of damage, I've seen lots of accusations of illegal handles flying round on social media. Very difficult to prove, I'm also not entirely sure how some sort of mouldable/flexible handle would be beneficial?

Suspect probably just not as broken as it looked, as remarkable as that seems, and was eventually replaced as ultimately it was impacting performance negatively

Post by: Beachcricket on October 22, 2015, 09:06:36 PM: I would suspect it was indeed very broken, only being held together by the central laminations. The same thing happened to my bat at the end of 2014. The thicker outside sections had snapped but the handle remained useable until I eventually realised it was making funny noises.

I don't think so mate.

Cricket bats are made almost completely of natural products. You can't prevent every possible issue as there are natural flaws/imperfections that just can be avoided.
This is probably a 1:100 000 type occurrence.

I think the running in incident would have caused the handle to delaminate i.e. the bond between the inserts and cane to break, allowing these to slide on each other and therfore appear mouldable (I expect that the handle would have been on its way out already before this incident however).
