So i was practising in the nets and this happened...

I was told if something like this happened, the bat would be replaced free of charge. So I will probably go down to hunts on Friday to get a new one (another excuse to get a new bat I suppose).
The bat itself was oiled 3 times and was knocked in for a few weeks so I don't think it was under-prepared. Maybe overdried or storm damaged but I'm not really sure.
Nothing against hunts county and tony. His bats are superb. Just a dodgy piece of wood but I am definitely not put off buying his bats. I was just unlucky that I got a weak bat. At least he will replace it free of charge.
Reminds me of Michael Carberry snapping his in the ashes.

Storm damage!
Strange his seems to be a hot topic at moment, was there a big storm in the last year effecting the bats?
I've just had a custom h4l stopped halfway through as Matt found storm damage in my selected cleft. Was gutted

Either that or the cleft was really really dry. Ah well at least I get the smell of fresh wood on Friday :)

Stick a bit of PVA in it and clamp it up....last a few seasons ;)
It's dead. Manufacturer should replace that as not the type of damage you would get from not looking after it

Tony said that if something like this happened to come back to him and he would replace it for free.

I had a bat go straight in two like this last season, the bottom half flew off and hit the non striker! Happily the batmaker (a forum sponsor) sorted me out and replaced it straight away. Assumed that was the mythical storm damage, who knows though.
-
Happened to to one of our side too he had a TON bat used for 4 games split right under the splice. It was only the stickers holding together. Looked tinder dry inside though
-
Yeah something i've never seen before. Just had a laugh when this happened. Was absolutely stunned. I felt the bottom of the bat fly back as played an on drive and there was a lot of power loss. I looked down on the floor and saw some small wood chippings, looked down at the toe; toe was fine. Tapped the bat down again; seemed fine. Looked again and half of it was behind the other!

Likely to be weak from storm damage, had a couple go like this its just unfortunate, can happen to any make or model
Mine was a newbery snapped pretty much like this and it was replaced just fine.
I saw a few tell tale signs on the willow when i went to a manufacturer but its also the case its not always visable when picking a bat.

I did a recent blog post on this - http://wp.me/p69Qw2-1u (http://wp.me/p69Qw2-1u)
Not sure if this a compression crease as I cannot see the tell tale signs of the lighning strike but these might be visible in the edge. Looks to me like a possible inherant flaw in the willow, these break a batmakers heart as they could do nothing about it but unfortunately they are the ones that have to replace :-(

Cheers mate. Great read. I feel sorry for the batmakers because they would be losing money but it's just something that happens I guess.

Might be a good idea to remind guys on here of the wasteage percentage - the hidden cost of batmaking.
-
Is the bat maker stuck with the replacement bill or does the willow supplier replace it?
-
The bat maker is probably going to have to pay the bill unfortunately.

Now thanks to Streaky we are all experts on breakages i am in the storm damage camp.
-
We pay for it unfortunatly , so next time people complain about bat prices please consider this side of the story for the batmaker :-(
-
That's really bad luck :(
-
Unrelated to the bat breaking bat nice stickers on that bat!

Stickers are beautiful. I wouldn't mind getting a custom with those on.
I think this also shows the quality of aftercare you get from British firms, or at least buying in the UK you get your guarantee.

Yeah it's really good of them to give me a free replacement let alone a free custom. Will probably be changing the shape to something like this with the exception of the spine running through the toe and insignia stickers...

showing my newbieness here, never seen that bat before I think.
My mate swears by his county bats. He's had a few down the years but never seen this one.

The turbo revolution or the insignia? All the bats are on their website.

never really looked on their site before. Just had a quick look and the bats look good. Can't say I like the Aura colour scheme.

The revolution. Saw the insignia in Barrington Sports a while ago and the caerlucx whatever it's called has a nice profile and I like the traditional look

The revolution has been here for a few years now. It's the bat where they drill through the middle of it to make a "hollow power zone".

I've used a Revolution for most of this summer's LMS. Been a fantastic bat and scored loads of runs for both me and many other players!

I seem to remember slazenger doing a bat with a hole going through the blade. Think Andrew Symonds used it.
I'd have thought it would adversely affect it but obviously is fine

drilling a hole through middle is a good way of shaving of 2 ounce of a bat weight! regarding performance increase? i didn't really see any.
I had a bat snap on me earlier this year after 1 game :( was massive as well probs a bit dry!
-
Tony has confirmed the bat was indeed storm damaged. Now the choice of stickers. The auras are tempting me :o

Good to see a bat maker putting right something that's gone wrong and the forum highlighting that.it might lead to another sale from someone on here you never know.its unfortunate the bat maker, whoever they are,has to foot the bill but good service can only be good for maker and players in the long run.
I once had 3 of David Milins bats(county bowler and a bit quick) when he retired from playing.
There was an insignia and a spirit from memory.all County bats and they were superb
-
Just a bump on this, I will be getting my new custom from Tony today and Im still wondering what stickers to go for... Too many choices >:(
-
Old school insignia, they look the dogs danglies!

Me too... Caerulex, Insignia or Aura ???

I think the colourful modern stickers will look a little tatty as time goes on and as the bat gets used where as the retro look should stay classy IMO
-
Just got the bat made... Will post pics soon

Don't be a tease!
What stickers did you go for?? :)

My teammates laverwood had suffered the same fate from storm damage. The signs were pretty easy to spot in this case with clearly visible lines running across. James offered a replacement and apologized for the selection of willow. Exceptional customer service indeed.

Good to know L&W are honoring replacement units for storm damaged bats. How is the new bat working for you ??

Its my friends bat and he is still knocking it in. His other laverwoods have been very good but he is not super satisfied with the replacement either when compared to the ones he had from an year or two ago.
