Title: Unofficial Cbf vs hollinsend 2016
Post by: smilley792 on November 09, 2015, 04:20:29 PM
So I'm looking at sorting some friendlies for my club. Warm up games for the 2016 season.

I'm wanting either a Saturday warm up(probably April) or/and a Wednesday warm up game(probably April/may).
Will confirm dates when fixtures come out.

Format would be

Sat 40 overs, 12.30 start at our club. Looking for ten cbf players plus me to take on an assorted xi from our club.
Will try to organise a tea(free of charge) and we have a decent bar to have a drink after.

Wednesday, 6.30 pm start. 12- 8 ball overs(works well with our league that early with late finish) again looking for ten players plus me to take on an assorted xi from my club.

If I can't get a full ten I can fill the side with players from our club, but would prefer a cbf only side.

Games will be free as I'll cover any cost our club wants(doubt they'd want anything to be honest)

So who's interested??

@RF
@Ams4287
@Lumsden
@Simmy
@SRH
@Ryan
@procricket B3
@qasim_aziz99
@Cin88
@joeljonno
@Kieron_BT
@jamferg

And anyone else that's willing to travel and or is in the area. All interest welcome.

Cheers Chris

Yeah sounds good - normally league season starts Saturday 23rd April and ideally would have a club game on the 16th

Cheers all that are interested.

I would prefer to get both games going, as with our midweek season, there'd be a few weeks gap between sat and then the wed game,
Obviously wed game will have the issue of work and travel, but if I only get 6 for the wed game, I can easily fill it as we do run 2 sides midweek so plenty willing to play my end.

Sweet.

Cheers for the interest guys. It good to know it seems I should be able to get a side out.
Keep the interest coming.

Once the fixtures for the season are out, I will try to organise some dates with the club that hopefully allow 11 of us to play!

Cbf rules.

I note this thread gathered momentum then went quiet. I was quite looking forward to slipping on the CBF colours and inflicting my dull brand of off-spin on some poor souls this April.

Yep, they normally do go quiet!

Just to do the dull disclaimer stuff. This isn't an official CBF team, CBF wouldn't be responsible for any costs or negative outcomes from the event. I wouldn't expect there is be any issues but we do need to draw a line between a call for players for a forum members team, and something arranged by the forum for forum members.

We'd love to arrange more official forum games, but it's proved tricky in the past to pull 11 players together on a specific day from various parts of the country.  Then you have collection of money, arranging of kit etc etc. Too many moving parts if you like.

Good luck this game though.

@Lumsden .

Been quiet as I got a head start and now waiting on my clubs fixtures to drop. I'm not gonna update it every week till I know more.

Currently my league has told us we will start the league one week early and get a cup game before that. So early start as is but will organise as best I can and update when fixture drop.

@dannyhall04 not sure why you'd want to watch us. Come play instead.

@uknsaunders thanks for popping your high and mighty opinion in about "these always go quiet" before I got the chance to reply. Sorry I'm at work today. I shall endeavour to watch the forum for 24hrs a day from now on.

As for your failure to pulltogeher xi players, it's only because you want the xi players in your clique to play. Me and plenty others have volunteered to play to never be contacted or ask preferences by yourself as you had the same xi. Who then never played due to lack of players.
Hell you even picked a guy that failed to turn up without a word (as well as leaving he people he offered  lifts to high and dry) the year after.

If that's not a farce I don't know what is.

👍 Great stuff Chris - whether early, mid or late season (weekend of mid week) be a good laugh.

A little pop (apologies in advance) We also canned the North vs South game as people get a nose bleed past London (Jake had volunteered there ground in Peterborough)

I don't want to this thread to go off topic but:

1. It's a fact that most of these games fizzle out on numbers and you can dig through the threads if you don't believe me. I hope yours doesn't and best of luck.

2. I'm not going to discuss individual situations but there were good reasons for non attendance of one person. As for others being available,  I can show an inbox of yes turned to no when asked.  Nobodies fault and it happens. You pick a team based on a number of criteria, 2/3 can't play and then all the reserves who could can't either.  Might appear haphazard or discriminatory to you but I can assure you its anything but.

Not sure how much captaincy experience you have but I've been pulling together sides at all levels for 20+ years so I know what I'm doing more than most. I hope you find it an easier job than me.

Good luck again.

Nothing wrong with having a pop once in a while. Doctors say it's good for the heart.

Never understand why the southerners won't travel, but then having lived in America, this country is tiny and everywhere is travel able to me.

For 5 years I was secretary treasuring and sole member of the selection committee for 2 midweek sides. Never failed to get 22 out and never failed to get a player there.
I then had to captain said midweek side. 3 titles in those side years(2 of which undefeated) would say I did a pretty good job.

The only excuse for not turning up and not letting people know is being in a coma. Takes 5 seconds to send a text to one person who can then attempt to sort the rest.

As a forum game, it should be selected appropriately. I.e first to reply to the thread are selected. If they drop out then fill.
Not have 22 people want to play, pick your favoured xi. Then expect the guys who were first to reply and eager be able to play at a few weeks notice.

2 years in a row I said I was available and booked the day off within minutes of the thread going live, never got selected or pm'd

In fact when I kicked off on the thread then, you claimed I wasn't selected as I couldn't  bowl. Yet you never explained why you never asked if I was a bowler or not?

Presumption is the mother of all...........(or an excuse cos I'm not in the barn net clique)

You weren't far off about the coma, but that's not a good enough excuse by the sounds of it. Pleased it's so easy and black and white for you. Life isn't for most of us.

West Cumbria, just on the edge of the Lake District, I currently live near Wigton about 9 miles south west of Carlisle. My hometown is Cockermouth (a name I'm sure you'll appreciate!) a small market town about 25 miles south of Carlisle, famous for Jennings bitter and flooding at biblical levels.

No Wigton is just where I happen to live due to the excessively cheap housing hahaha we play our midweek games at Nelson Tomlinson school just next to the Rugby/Cricket club, I've only lived here a couple of years but we're out of town so it's nice and quiet, Cumbria is a very working class area once you get to the west of the lakes so we grow up a little rough but we're mostly good people :)

See if this gets mixed up all the spam and spats(caused by me)

Patience is a virtue! Just attend my nets and the pub after and we have a date.

SATURDAY APRIL THE 9th 12 pm start. 40-45 overs per side dependant on weather(decide on the day)

We have oppo, which will be varied, probably 5 or 6 first teasers, a few seconds and then juniors to make up.

I just need to organise the teas and hopefully some kind of officials.

All I need know is a cbf team. So who is available. I'll be playing for "unofficial" cbf

Yes I would like to play as our league fixtures start the Saturday after.

Could I also point out that the reason for my recent post on this thread was not to start an argument but simply to bump/promote the idea of this match.

In regards to teas, my wife does fantastic cakes (lemon drizzle, carrot cake and a chocolate cake). I can bring these along if someone else can make the sandwiches.

That's quite a collection of Northerners - in fact what is the correct noun for a group of Northerners all together, is it a 'Grumble'?

If you are short of players I am only 25-30mins away and would be happy to play. Our league fixtures start the week after and I don't think we have any friendly games arranged.

Where abouts are you mate? Wouldn't be surprised if some have a similar drive that have already been picked.

Wakefield around 10 miles from Leeds. I have a scirocco so only two seats in the back, boot is not wide but pretty deep (no jokes please). So room for 3 people 2 bags in boot and one on laps in the back if needed.

Hi Hanif

Be good to have you on board and checkout some of your bats! There are a couple of the lads local to you.

If you're still short after the first round of refusals etc Then I'd be up for a game. I'm in Sheffield (Nether Edge).

Cheers

I only have two bats which is one more than normal. My net bat is possibly on its way out, so just preparing my new bat for the season. it might be ready to use in this friendly game. As for any other bats I am unable to mention on here. What I can say is that stumps indoor cricket nets in Wakefield have a nice selection.

Don't make me strap on the pads.

Currently my club is trying to find some willing tea lady's, and I have 1 umpire and a scorer. So looking good.

I stated earlier that I can provide cakes but could do full teas at a push too.  However if we got everyone to bring something along then that would make life easier.

Okay, rabanner I shall add you to the list when my phone stops being stupid and not working.

@Lumsden I'll see what the club says, we usual have a decent buffet tea at ours. Not had any complaint from opposition on a sat.

We have a bar to for after the game and dependant on how people feel there is a takeaway that delivers to us! But then when your dropping 140 quid orders. Who isn't going to deliver.

Plus 3 go pros, and a spare batterys.

If I can get an ump to wear one on his chest, stumpers to wear one and share one between willing batsmen. We may even get a full highlights package!

Brad news chaps. This game is now off!!!

Unfortunately my club has just informed me(via email I may add not even a phone call) that due to repairs on the artificial that must take place before the season starts, the friendly will have to be cancelled to accommodate.

I'm not particularly happy as had just secured us a tea as well as scorer, umpire and got our xi.

Players st my club aren't happy as its took this game and the Sunday game out of the calendar which means no friendlies for them either X straight into the season we go.

Artificiality issue ain't nothing new, been same for two years. Great planning!

But sorry chaps, and yes mr Saunders you can say "I told you so"

No problem thanks for letting us know Chris, makes your "tryouts" on Saturday a bit more relaxed. It does show though potentially with some notice enough people come forward for a game - wonder whether a mid week 50 over game inter forum could get some mileage (west / South Yorkshire and Derbyshire vs midlands / Warwickshire for example)

Enjoy Saturday and a few pics would be good to put some faces to some of the guys who haven't netted with us before, sorry I can't make it.

thanks for letting us know.

yes, are your "trials" still happening?

agree with above about being able to get an unofficial CBF South Yorkshire/Derbyshire team out for a friendly. Maybe mid week T20 is more doable (for me at least).

cheers

Not sure where you guys got "try out/trials from" on Saturday. It was a net and I merely said it would be a chance to see people playing I hadn't seen before that were playing in the game.

People seem to be taking cricket far to seriously again. Relax and have fun.

Chris, the quotation marks were supposed to show that this was meant as a joke and more about me self-deprecatingly putting pressure on myself to demonstrate my own (in)ability with the bat than about you assessing us!

No offence meant or intended and sorry if it came across as mean or anything.

Thanks once again for organising this and all the effort you put in. Having it wasted must be galling.

Cheers
