Title: THE "Typhon" 55MM edge (PICTURES NOW ON)
Post by: procricket on November 11, 2015, 05:06:27 PM
Well after being away time to show my new design done by the Doctor.

It currently in CAD process but will get pictures up very soon.

It follows on from the ZIZI legacy which for me is as good a pick up on any bat.

This bat comes from the ZIZI but is bigger and after all the designs we did last year i loved the zizi the best

NOW PLEASE BE AWARE THIS IS A OVERSIZED CLEFT A 370 DENSITY MAKES A 2-13 BAT HOWEVER WE COULD DO SAME DENSITY AND KNOCK OFF 1 TO 2MM OVERALL ON THE BAT AT A LOSS OF 1OZ PER 1MM SO IF YOU WANTED A 2-9 BAT THE SIZE WOULD BE 51MM EDGE HOPE THAT MAKES SENSE OR IF YOU VERY LUCKY AND WANTED LIGHTER YOU COULD ASK IF WE HAVE LOWER DENSITY CLEFTS BUT LOWER OVERSIZED CLEFTS DENSITY IS EVEN HARDER TO GET THAN NORMAL. HOWEVER WE WILL NOT MAKE THE TOE ANY SMALLER SO YOU WOULD HAVE TO SPEAK TO STREAKY ABOUT EXACT SPECS

That's the sort of weight one would expect from a UK made bat with 50+mm edges :)

Sounds cool boys looking forward to pics.

Typhon was the largest and most powerful of the Titans, his was the realm of storms and was imprisoned under a mountain.

Seems like an apt name for that profile :)

Similar to the Warner GN bat but with a duck bill?

Nothing like it pal i have been lucky to have had a very good luck at Warner bat bar the fact both are over 50mm edges. Shoulders much bigger on this spine much bigger on Warner..

Plus this has a convex top at the spine apex yet the Warner doesn't

Looks a beast! What was the thinking behind the tweaks, some weight off the toe and pack a lot more into the flanks around the middle, do you have a slightly heavier pick up, but a lot more wood?

What is the difference between edge size and edge 'coverage'?

Just supersized where it was need to be supersized and kept the toe similar to the zizi in terms on wood

Also upped the shoulder slightly to allow for better weight distribution

The finishing looks superb! Imagine this with a lighter cleft but make the spine bigger! Even if it weighed 2.14-2.15, that would be immense!

Agreed but happy with the coverage and feel anything over 62mm on a spine is wasted as there no twist but with bigger edges equaling gives the lack of twist due to the weight of the bat in the area. But i do know what you mean will post a few pictures of bats with smaller edges and some with bigger spine.

But i guess thats my theory this is a experimental bat which i think will be my main bat

Bet it picks up nicely, I like how the spine stays high into the handle!

I just personally like a  touch more spine to edge, bet it flies off that though!

I also picked up a custom Pepsi today with square toe will show that some time later on.

Overall very happy with this new concept bat picks up very well and off the mallet and tap it is a beast with a great coverage.....

As it was a 370 cleft, add 3oz to use a 400 cleft so 3lb so losing 6oz is losing 6mm off the profile as a rough guide you are looking at a high forties mm profile. 55mm less 6-7mm = 48mm ish

Sorry pal it not as simple as that with this shape as the toe will not be made any smaller so the 1mm all over is not quite the case unfortunately as Streaky will not make one with a very small toe as i said best to chat to Streaky mate

There's a place on ebay that has a good range, sadly not in the same thickness as the GM ones. From the pictures the b3s look just as good, good news as they're easily my favourite grip these days.

Need to look maybe at normal sized cleft the coverage idea ala 1271 and the typhhon/zizi.

I may go back to my roots and look at something around 2/8 slash 9 within the regs or go mega mong size...
