Title: Ridicolously soft ca
Post by: smilley792 on November 15, 2015, 03:37:06 PM
So yeah, this bat I have Is soft.

Bought it a while ago now, probably about 18 months ago.
Took the "fully knocked" sticker with a pinch of salt and started to knock it in. It was soft, and after about 3 hrs of trying, I relegated it to indoor league bat as didn't trust it.

So did last indoor season with it, and as per usual lost the toe guard 1st game in. But no issues.

This season...... It's starting to get damage. From soft balls!!
Some damage is from last week but most is of this week.

How can a soft ball damage a bat? I'd hate to see how long this lasts against a hard ball!!

It probably won't unless you get it pressed.

Pink ones with seams on.

There not hard, I stumped today without pads no issue.

I swear by my CA but it did require a lot of knocking. I have since bought two more and they will be put through the same rigorous process.

I use old, hard pillows as a base to rest the bat and then mercilessly knock with my GN short handle mallet. It is an effective method.

When did you last oil the bat?

It got oiled in August as I attempted to do another hours knocking in.

Not managed to fail knocking a bat in yet, and done/have a fair few

It looks as if to me it just hasn't been pressed or if it has it must be the ultimate 'pro press' 😉

I had a CA years back that looked very similar to yours in the early stages of use. It went on to last several seasons.

Try getting it pressed and knocked once! Check out our forum sponsorers services! They will be able to help you out. The grains and willow look good..

Does the spine extend till the toe of your bat ? There are some CA bats who spine don't extend till toe and this leaves out a weak toe. Unless its properly pressed and prepared its more susceptible to cracks. I have used a teammate's bat - CA 10000, soft pressed willow, moderately knocked after 3 coats of oil. Good luck ...
