Title: The IJC Christmas Party - Final Details and Dates
Post by: ItsJustCricket on December 01, 2015, 04:24:15 PM
Hello all,

So after a lot of work behind the scenes, and persuading Paul and Amos to agree to let me run this whole thing (terrible idea!), I've finally got some concrete news for everyone.

The IJC Christmas Event will take place on Tuesday 15th December, starting at 5PM, and extending to 11PM.

(http://i930.photobucket.com/albums/ad145/thebd11/ijc%20christmas%20flyer.jpeg) (http://s930.photobucket.com/user/thebd11/media/ijc%20christmas%20flyer.jpeg.html)

We are going to be having the usual fully stocked beer fridge, and some nibbles too, as well as the new ranges from nearly all of the new 2016 brands.

Further to this, we wanted to make it a little bit different, and so we have 5 speakers lined up on the day who will give talks, to help make this something more than just beer and bats!

Phantom Cricket

Phantom have kindly agreed to come along and talk about their brand, and how they are so, so much more than just a stickering company. They will also have some very special deals on bats and gloves for Christmas, which I will announce over the next couple of days. Aftab is such a passionate guy, and the quality of his stuff so high, I think a lot of people who see Phantom for the first time will be blown away!

Charlie French Cricket

Charlie has been presenting at cricket clubs for a while now, giving talks about exactly how he makes his bats from hand, and explaining in detail the processes he uses. He also has some pretty revolutionary analysis on sweet spots, which Paul himself said "could change the market" - high praise indeed!

BatFast

BatFast is incredibly cool. Essentially it is a pop up luxury net, which can be transported around to the needs of the client, with state of the art bowling machine technology in. I would never be able to explain it so well, so have a look on the website here - http://batfast.com/. (http://batfast.com/.) It really is something special, so check out the website!

GripGrip

As we head towards Christmas we are all looking for the perfect stocking filler. GripGrip is exactly that. Mike, the inventor and creator of the ingenious little product, will be coming along to talk about it in more detail, and we will have plenty in stock for that cricket mad person you know (yes, buying stocking fillers for yourself is absolutely acceptable!)

Stretton Fox

Now, this might be the one the Forum is interested in. George and The Platinum Lounge have agreed an exclusive collection for 2016, and he will be unveiling some of this on the day. Certainly the brand new luggage range will be on display, for the first time ever! He will also endeavour to bring some other (secret!) things down, but come on the day to find out! We all know what an enthusiastic guy George is, so let's support him and see him hit himself with a mallet once more, no doubt!

Anyway, any questions or requests let us know, we will also be doing some special offers for IJC stock on the day, so come on down and make an evening of it!

There is potential to stock CF going forwards depending on the feedback from customers and people who attend on the day!

I must also add this is not a forum exclusive event, we will be inviting all our customers to come along and try things out!

Charlie is a top bloke and his talks are good value. Make sure you have decent ale in the fridge for him (not just fizzy piss!)

Any idea when each speaker will be turning up, Chris?

The event is from 5-11, and we are planning on having speakers from 7-9. This will allow plenty of beer and browsing time both before and after the talks.

Yes, Amos will be ensuring there is some ale in the fridge - he's really taken on his Yorkshireman role since his video!

Great effort Chris and the IJC crew, thanks for the speedy delivery on the item I ordered this week couldn't ask for a better service. Would dearly love to attend but don't think I'd get my pass stamped currently with all the other travel I've been doing. Hope the evening goes well, certainly some great speakers lined up for it.

It's all hotting up at IJC towers. The discussion over which beers to stock is raging - what is this Northern ale you people speak of?

Please could we get some RSVPs over the next couple of days so we have an idea of numbers, and most importantly how much alcohol to buy. Like I said, the event will start at 5, but speakers not until 7, so plenty of time to browse some stunning new 2016 stock we have now, and enjoy some beverages!

I must say - I'm surprised by the lack of RSVPs on this one. Free beer and a number of talks from some inside industry figures? Not to mention Foxy will be there with his new kit - which seemed to generate a fair few comments on that thread. He's going to be unveiling his luggage range, exclusive to the Lounge, too.

See what you think of this teaser, indicating the sheer quality you can expect from this, the Stretton Fox Flagship Coffin -

Best of all, the event is absolutely free to come to, just drop us a message on here or an email and we'll stick a beer in the fridge for you!

If I still lived that way I would certainly come along. Problem may be close to Christmas and also fear of spending the wife's Xmas fund on cricket kit lol

Any possibility of streaming the talks, as with others a trip from Oslo for the evening is a little difficult.

This is an awesome idea, live streaming the talks would defiantly be something I'd watch however I know you'd rather have people come through your doors for the business.

Not everyone lives in London, and people generally work till 5/6 anyway. Plus what with it being a week before Christmas, it's a little hard to justify the travel and no doubt expense on cricket gear. Best of luck with it

Anyway, if you turned up, surely 'justnotcricket' and 'It's Just Cricket' cancel each other out and we would be left with a vacuum?

We have a few people coming, just surprised by the lack of interest from the forum.

We should be filming some of the talks to put up in our latest blog...

Perfect - we took into account most people leaving from work, so we made sure the talks won't start until around 7, so that is still plenty of time to come down from work!

Hello All,

Another announcement.

We will be having the team behind TON, Gentleman&Players caps, and Zing Bails also coming on Tuesday. It'll be a cracker so even if you don't like me or Paul come for these guys, some free beer, and some quality bats!

... even if you don't like me or Paul come for these guys, some free beer, and some quality bats!

I would have loved to hear Charlie French's views on bat-making. Are you stocking them next year? One of my mates lives in Clapham so could swing by and pick up a CF bat as I am in the market.

I cannot attend as midweek combined with it being busy time of year along with commute make it a tad difficult to attend. I don't comment much but drop in to the forum from time to time to see what's new and at present, I am looking to educate myself before I invest in my first bat in nearly 10 years! I saw the MH stuff, which I presume is why you think you're disliked, yet I don't think people on here are that petty to judge you and I can categorically say that I don't think you or Paul are disliked! It doesn't come across that way to me anyway. If people on this forum/thread, read this comment and actually do dislike you because of that then I am sorry but you really need move on and perhaps re-evaluate what's important (and perhaps when next on-line, look at naked ladies on the internet instead of hating a cricket bat shop...)!

I had only really heard of Morrant and Talent before a Google of "custom bat" led me to this forum, handmade brands and other distributors such as yourselves and Vitas, and I can say that I have not been deterred by any of the 'negativity' and would definitely consider popping into your store when in London next! Good luck with the show, and hope you get a lot of local people in for the food and beer!  :) :)

Just a reminded to everyone that this is tomorrow!

Our speakers are lined up, ready to go, our beer fridge is (literally) overflowing, so come on down and stop me and Paul drinking it all! It's completely free, and even if you don't need any kit it's a great opportunity to check out the Platinum Lounge and listen to talks from some special companies.

Foxy will be unveiling some special things as well!

Thanks for everyone who has supported the event, it's been a labour of love organising it - it isn't quite as easy as a normal forum meet up or net, lots of work has gone into it, so the more people who can make it, even for just half an hour or so, would be brilliant!

Thanks again, hopefully see you tomorrow over a cold one,

Hats off to Paul, Chris and staff for last night's shindig. Where else can you wave around expensive sticks of willow and talk about the nuances of rubber grips, hanker after ergonomic man protection and examine pod shavings with like-minded kit badgers without feeling self-conscious? It was great to finally meet George (the nicest man in cricket), listen to the wisdom of Charlie French, a true old skool master, and to hear about an exciting up-and-coming UK brand in Phantom. I was even sold on the benefits of Grip Grip, the one bit of cricket kit I thought I didn't need. I did leave without a CF stick, mind. Might have to remedy that. So well done chaps. Looking forward to the next one. One tip? More real ale in the fridge! 😀
