Having posted a topic on bat recommendations for around the £100, two most recommended bats were the B&S Assegai 3 from Jake and a Custom X3 from John.
Spoke to both, Jake and John in detail and decided to go down the custom route.
I explained to John which bat I was using, level of cricket played etc and he provided excellent advice on what I would need.
Around a month ago, I decided to send him some specs for a bat and this is the finished article

Basic requirement was:
Full profile with minimal concaving if needed to keep weight down.
Long middle.
Semi oval handle at the bottom and round at the top.
Rounded toe.
Weight around 2.7-2.9 max fully dressed.
The bat looks fantastic. Had a quick ping test and it's really good. Can only get better once it's played in and the profile is spot on; very similar to my old MRF bat. The lighting and scuff sheet hides 8 straight, evenly spaced grains.
Thank you to John for being patient and providing great advice. Would definitely recommend him if you're looking to go down the custom route.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jake as well for providing great advice too.

Reckon you took the best option you won't go wrong with a Red Ink.
-
Thanks - Yeah I'm really pleased with it. Balance and pick up is fantastic too

These X3s really are unbeatable value aren't they. John makes a lovely bat.

Certainly does! And for the sake of an extra £15, the chance of owning a custom handmade bat was too difficult to refuse!
Oh and the RedInk brand name goes very well with my forum name! ;)

You are right you can't beat a handmade bat made to your own specs

looks awesome, what's the weight?
I have got one on order, can't wait for it to arrival, looks like I made a smart choice
-
Thanks mate. This one weighs in at 2.8
You won't be disappointed with yours when it arrives

That's arguably the best bat you can get for the money. All this along with excellent customer service experience from Red Ink makes it more special. Hope you make the bowlers pay for this.. [emoji6]

Holy moly! That's some bat for the money, don't know how Red Ink do it!
-
@vishwas @northernboy1987 Seriously, it was a non brainer for me. The service and quality of the end product is spot on. Cannot recommend highly enough
-
The feedback from everyone who's seen that bat has been fantastic and another bat order is being placed :D
-
what are the specs for your new order?
-
@Vishwas an X* 2.8 but profile of ABD's bat. There will be some concaving on it due to the weight but the cleft is a stunner!

That's nice. I bet they might use low density cleft which might help as well.
