Title: Bargain Rebel
Post by: edge on December 02, 2015, 12:27:54 PM
As Mongoose were celebrating being back by selling their bats ridiculously cheaply, it would have been rude not to pick one up. Liked the Rebel shape when it was first released and I already have an MMi3, so for a bargain £65 for the Prime grade I went for it.
First impressions:
Bit lighter than I was hoping, ordered medium and received 2lb8.5, but it feels nicely balanced in the hands and not too light.
Nice profile, long mid-low middle with a bit of a duckbill, little spot of concaving.
Taps up well with mallet and ball, middle is pretty generous in length and width, seems pressed well too.
Handle's a nice oval but thin, will definitely be getting an extra grip or two.
Don't know if it's because I bought the cheap model, but the stickers are rubbish in real life sadly. Flat colours, nothing like the very nice stickers on their other bats.
Lovely bit of willow for 'Grade 4'! Not a lot of grains but they're evenly spaced and pretty straight, nothing much in the way of blemishes either.

Very pleased, middle position and size will suit grounds I play on well and performance seems good so might be more than a backup bat. Anyone else pick something up in the sale?

No complaints at that price, cracking bit of wood... Unfortunately I didn't take advantage of the deals!! I did pick up some super premium pads from eBay though, someone from here selling them I think..

I've seen worse looking bats being sold as grade 1s

Lovely looking bat.

I almost wish I had picked up another cheap bat. I do love my mmi3

Thanks for the review, glad you like it. Agree the low-end stickers need some improvements in the next range!

Stonking shape and a really clean piece of wood. Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks chaps, very pleased with it! Had my first bat in almost two months today (been out with broken leg) against a bola with this and it's a good'un! Quite a bit lighter than I normally use, but pinged off nicely. Given time to open up it's going to be a cracking bat.
