I really need to stop looking at eBay.....
The eBay addicts will have seen this advert a couple of weeks back which was also tagged in the forum eBay thread.

The description and particularly the weight (1.5kg!) raised some concerns but I did a little checking on Bradbury range weights/sizes, and I also researched the Pro who may have used this bat. This gave me enough reassurance to take a calculated risk and make an offer on it.
Anyway the bat arrived yesterday and on opening it I had the nice, but not totally unexpected, surprise that the eBay description was a little off. The specs on receipt were:
🔹 Standard SH (although I wouldn't have minded if it was LH)
🔹 Weight with grip, grip-grip, scuff and sponsor sticker - 2lb 10 1/4 oz
🔹 Edge is 34mm, Spine around 60mm with a little concaving.
I know there have been a lot of fake Bradburys on the market in the past, but this one has the edge stamps and looks the real deal.
On to the question of whether this was a Pro's bat........ The seller told me that it was one of a number of Bradburys used by Gareth Rees at Glamorgan in 2013. I got in touch with him through Twitter and he confirmed the following

The weights match when you take into account the grip-grip and extra sticker. Also when I removed the grip I found the initials GR written in sharpie on the handle so as we all know that definitely proves it was a Pro's bat 😉
It taps up nicely and the pick up feels light and well balanced.
The scuff was damaged and there was some tape on the toe so I took these off to get a good look at the condition. It has a pretty clean face with 8 straight grains, there is some feathering and one crack to the toe. I plan to fit a new grip, glue the crack, tidy up the toe and sand the face ready for nets in the new year - will post more piccies once this is done.
It would be great to get hold of a new set of Bradbury stickers over the next few months so I can give it a full refurb.

Lovely bat

Had a look at that myself well done with the detective work.
-
this looks good, and genuine
strolling out with an ex pro bat got to be worth an extra couple of hundred runs a year in the mind!

Great, where do I get one?
With an extra 200 in the bank i'd score about 215 for the season! :D

Lovely bat
Cheers Buzz, I assume that is the forum name for Paul and Sally?

I have to admit I took a look at that one, lovely bat. Guy at our club has a 'standard' retail top end Bradbury and it's an absolute gun.
I took a punt on a Kook Genesis pro player issue bat on ebay last month, yet to try it out but doing a bit of research looks like it dates back to 2006/7 - will see what its like in nets this weekend...
Hope it goes well for you!

Well done mate, lovely looking bat!

i did put a bid on this bat as i liked the look of it but i didnt end up winning

A quick update on the Bradbury now that I have given it a light refurb.
I glued and clamped the small crack in the toe, taped up the stickers and then sanded back to white wood before giving it a coat of oil. Pretty pleased with the result, all it needs now is a new grip and some scuff and it will be ready for nets later this month.

What colour grip would you put on:
a) white - the classic safe choice
b) gold to match the sticker colour
c) black to match the writing
-
Personally I'd apply a white grip.
That and black go with any stickers, and the white doesn't mark your gloves.
Are you going for a fibreglass or helicopter sheet?
-
I had a feeling you would go for white Cam
Not sure on the scuff, but definitely won't use full fibreglass as want to see the grains. I have some of the hammer edge style sheets or I may go for the all clear type - do you get yours from Jake?
-
Definitely white, looks very classy on a Bradbury!! Hammer edge would look decent too, not a fan of full fibreglass.

Looks nice i should deface my bat find out what presents its hiding for me. I would take a lot more pride in it doing it myself but i think it might need professional help!

White for sure! Great looking stick, great profile! If you don't mind me asking, what'd you pay for it?
-
White grip + fiber glass sheet would look real nice on this bat ...
-
Didn't these bats have a blue grip back in the day? I think gold would look awful

It came with a white grip, which I think was the original but not 100% sure as there was tape over the binding so the grip must have come off to do that.
The writing on the stickers does look dark blue from some angles so a blue grip may work.

Depends how confident you are with giving it a go and what level of finish you are after. This is only the 4th bat I have refurbed, I read up on the advice on here about how to do it and started with a cheaper stick in case it went wrong. Key thing is taking your time on each stage, and of course it is easier if you remove all stickers.
Many of the sponsors will do a great professional job for you especially if you want weight removed or new stickers. If you have one close to you then you can save on postage to keep the cost down

Lovely looking bat, very jealous :-[
