Things got a touch heated in our game yesterday. Playing against the 2nd top team a win would have moved us up to 2nd equal. With them starting to close in on our score their set batsman hits one down to long on and comes back for what would be a comfortable 2. Our long on who saw him basically walking the last portion of the second run throws it in, the batsman who was watching and was still 1.5m short of his ground, turned to face the incoming throw, moved slightly to his right, put his pads together and stopped the ball from either hitting the stumps (it was a great throw) or me as keeper taking the ball and running him out. The appeal was declined with no reason given by a very good ex senior cricketer.
Very disappointed to say the least and a few heated words were exchanged. What made things worse was the over before he had gloved one to me from the spinner and didn't walk.
I'm certain this would be classed as obstructing the field, does anyone disagree?

Where I come from, heated words would have been the least of his problems!

Your right out obstructing the field

I probably would have walked off and gone home

How could it not be out?

I can only answer that with when you cheat

I know the feeling of being on the wrong end of some blatant cheating but the umpire is the sole judge of fact and leaving your own team a man down only screws your own team more.

We had a situation 2 years ago out batsman pushing foward to a good length ball hit on the glove, given out LBW.

Sometimes you are given out when you are not, sometimes you are given not out when you are (thinking lbw, I always walk on caught behind). At the end of the season it probably balances out.

That's out ... Umpire can give not out only if he didn't see it .. Clearly that wasn't the case here.

Hopefully we get to play them in the semis and can pay them back with a resounding walloping.
All said and done it was still a great game and a beer was had together afterwards, all be it a few parties from each team sitting at opposite ends of the table.
