Poor bowlers! great press for SF

Reading about the humble beginnings of this young chap I am almost certain his bat and kit etc are all borrowed or donated.
Shame Indian media didnt bother doing a bat review.

they bowled the oppo out for less than 100 in both innings. completely pointless innings if you ask me, fair play to him, but that would never happen over here.
-
Do juniors play 5 day tests out there!?
-
You can say all you like but for a juniors game to me this is rather poor sportsmanship.
-
Saw an article about this on the BBC news.
He was using an SF bat I believe, but more shockingly after his 1009* the opposition were 31 all out
-
I love the quote from his coach...
"i am glad of his achievement so I will now be recognised as a great coach"
The whole match was madness really.
-
Video report I was talking about here

Anyone else think this is false? Or set up?
-
Certainly staged to break a record? Can't help thinking the oppo wouldn't be very happy to carry on bowling once the score was sailing past 500-600!

My local club has a young Indian that i believe still has the highest score by an individual in competitive league cricket (not schools) of over 500, earned a £40k sponsorship with SG aswell

Doesn't sound quite right does it.

Couple of scorecards. The second one is the original from AEJ Collins 628* in a house match at Clifton College which was the previous record.

8-16, Broad had better figures in a test match, bowling must've been awful...
-
Salunke is the star for me.
If anyone can find him, I'll send him some kit.
-
Apparently he slowed down a bit in the nervous 900's
-
Also, what kind of (No Swearing Please) gets to 1000* and thinks 'you know, I'll bat on for another 9 runs before we declare'? ;)
-
I think it was a 2 day game. I think I read somewhere that he recorded a district record in the game previous of the tournament.
Can't help but feel a little sceptical about it all!
-
Did it say India or Korea? Reminds me of Kim Jong Il's 38 under par round of golf.

He still has the record!

Speaking of Korea Kim Jong-Un has a score of 1,014* to his name ;)

Lots of mourmers on Twitter.
Apparently the tournament was u15s, but the opposition could only get an u12 side out, of which not all had played cricket previously.
If that's true, his 1009 is a joke, and surely this is tandamount to bullying??
Salunke an even bigger hero in my eyes.
-
Also heard it was 30m boundaries, still got a score them but less impressive that it originally sounded.
-
This article sums up my viewpoint - as a junior coach myself all I can says is well done on ruining 11 youngsters' opinion of cricket - probably will never play again

Would love to know the real measurements of the ground.
Wouldn't at all be surprised if it really was 30mt boundaries.
-
Personally think that the coach should be hauled out to explain himself (then banned). At this age group it's about the players participation and enjoyment. How many of the opposition will be playing cricket in 5 years and how many of his own team will give up due to lack of opportunity? I suspect that most of us on this forum could have had a good go at scoring 1000 against a team of 13/14 year olds who had never played.
-
1009 in roman numerals is MIX. Wonder how long it will take for the new kit range to appear?
-

I can assure I'd still find a way to get myself out long before 1000 runs haha

That's the ground, measures 63m x 100m.

Will his range have a nail in the handle?
-
Honestly the whole situation is just ridiculous. SF have pulled a blinder marketing wise
Step 1: set up a game so a lad scores record amount of runs and make sure the whole world knows
Step 2:make sure the media knows that not only was he using an SF bat but that it was undoubtedly a major factor in his success
Step 3: release special range of bats that are exactly the same as one of your current range and watch the gullible public flock to buy this "new" 1000 run super bat.
-
Personally I think it's not in with spirit of the game. How you could ask a 13 year old to keep bowling when they're going at over 20 an over.
This article covers it better than I can:

As mentioned in previous posts, it's not something to shout about really. It's actually an insult. Where's the spirit of the game, sportsmanship etc?
The coaches of the team should be sacked

Took it with a Pinch of salt when I first read it then later saw it on News at Ten completely meaningless it's a pity ITN have nothing better to report.

Wondering if the same sort of analysis was done when AEJ Collins made 628 ???
-

I suspect the whole thing was (at least partly) orchestrated by SF as a marketing device, if you can tell me what bat AEJ Collins used I'll be equally suspicious of him haha :D
-
I see Tendulkar's sent him a signed bat and Dhoni's waxing lyrical about it. Not like Dhoni at all to support unfairness in cricket...
It's bullying, nothing more. Agree the coaches/teachers have to take a serious look at themselves for allowing that to go on. Those kids on the receiving end have got them hanging over them for the rest of their lives. There's a massive difference between scoring a load of runs in a competitive game and rightly getting plaudits and bullying those with a far greater inability than you.
It's certainly not competitive sport...
-
I am surprised no one has blamed the pitch curator yet for making a flat track... :D

Another Flat track Bully :p
-
Though the boy's performance is commendable, demotivating and scarring to those 12-year olds (at the receiving end) to be in the wrong news at such an early age.
Totally avoidable if you ask me :(

Saw the video...looked like a tennis court and they only had 4 fielders

And they fielding team were 2 years younger due to exams....and most had never played before apparantly

this 'achievement' seems to becoming more and more fake as each day goes on.
I was initially pleased for this kid based on the news reports, however there is a big difference in a couple of years age gap as kids so pleased this type of match would not be tolerated in the UK.
It's over the line of what should be acceptable to 12 or 13 year old boys in a game.
-
A boy from humble backgrounds has broken a world record. Does not matter who the opposition was. He was asked to bat by his coach and he just did that.
The coach on the other hand, deserves criticism.
-
What is really the difference between that and backyard cricket with your younger cousin! Some of the opposition had literally never played cricket

I'm still fairly convinced it's all been staged as an elaborate marketing ploy by SF to sell more bats.

General consensus in the pub last night was that the coach should be sacked along with any parents who supported this behaviour. If it hapened in a school match here it would be classed as bullying.

how can you sack parents?

Haha too much hate man...there are a lot if class players who don't get the chance to progress because of finances, infrastructure anf general politics. If this gimmick helps raise the profile of junior level cricket, it can only be a good thing.

Thank you for sharing the link @bk. It's more a disgrace than anything these runs. Couldn't even read the complete article, it's that annoying !!
Can imagine the scenes there - poor kids must have barely even willingly fielded the hard hit ground shots on their pace bowlers flighted 5 1/2 oz balls cuz twas 6 yards too many for em. [emoji40][emoji40]

The thing that bugs me that most is that HE GOT A BAT FROM SACHIN!
-
The more I read about this the more it disgusts me.
-
Still don't understand why the opposition just didn't walk off. Something not right about that
-
if I was the coach I would have called it off when he was on 999 and say the lads have to get back or are too injured to play
-
The oppo coach was afraid of his school being barred from future editions if he did something like that. Which I can understand.
-
When a local junior side in Sheffield lost 37-0, the team folded and I wrote this column. Similar theme here... why the need for so many runs after bowling the oppo out for 31?!
