Gone through the back both sides. It's a team mates bat that he loves and sadly happened today. Long blade NV

Generally you can get this semi-repaired. This will still ultimately be terminal (glueing and clamping will only delay the inevitable), and depending on how quickly this happened, may be covered under warranty.
-
Yes repairable.
-
Two ways of doing it. Either open it up, glue it, clamp it. Or open glue clamp and drill a hole right through the bats edge all the way through. Brush a wooden peg with glue and insert so that the fits snugly. I've found this to work.

That's sounds like a solid solution, cheers

I would strongly suggest getting hold of a syringe and needle you can inject the glue all the way into the crack.
-
Like most bat damage it' can be repaired doing as already suggested but it won't be the same amongst other things when a bat breaks in that area and repaired there's a loss of power to the blade.
-
From the advice here and locally most think it's a goner. I'm going to try gluing and dowelling it myself and see what happens. Thanks for the advice.
Now when the repair fails what about turning it into a T20 slogger? It is a long blade and would need about 10cm cut off the top with an extra long handle, would this be possible?
-
It can be done but think about the vee in the blade will it have to be cut and can it take an handle being knocked in how strong will it be personally think its only worth doing as a DIY project.
-
I'd suggest sending that away rather than doing a DIY repair.
I'd imagine cutting the handle out, repairing the damage and then fitting a new handle would be the best way of fixing this.
-
Ouch! That hurts when it happens.
If you don't mind me asking, when was the bat last oiled? It looks very dry.
-
Probably oiled last season but I don't think any amount of oil would have stopped it from doing this.
-
Where are you? Drop it off for Matt to take a look?
-
I'm in NZ, not an option unfortunately.

Update, I've glued each side by opening up the cracks and in absence of a syringe have used a straw to blow PVA deep into the cracks flooding them them clamping and leaving for 24hrs. I only did one side at a time. Tonight I drilled and inserted dowels, on 8mm and one 10mm, will leave them to set for another day before cleaning the bat up. I will finish off by binding the top of the blade with fibre tape and re gluing the labels on. The free hand drilling went well on the lower hole, came out slightly off centre on the other just breaking through the back of the bat.
Although illegal what are people's thoughts on putting a screw in each side at the top of the splice?
Below shows the the bat and dowels, the clamp is just holding in a small chunk of re glued wood that popped out when I pushed the dowel through.
I'm still expecting this to explode after the first shot in anger.

Ive done this to a club bat last season, and its been used in untrained anger by many players, including sloggers, and the dowels seem to keep it holding up. No show of further breakage.
Look forward to seing it cleaned up.

After the repair try adding more binding so that it finishes much lower on the shoulders, I've done this 2-3 time on CA bats (always (No Swearing Please) handles) and they've always held up pretty well.
-
You could put wood screws in it could help secure the repair I wouil drill small pilot holes where the screws are to go to prevent the shoulder splitting when you insert the screws countersink the screw head so it is not visible also apply wood filler or a mixture of sawdust and PVA to fill the countersink holes and hide the screws

Sneaky buggars! May as well add TAS inserts to ensure the performance isnt lost [emoji6]

more of an anaesthetic thought than a sneaky one

Finished up the job now. Being my first attempt at a major repair I'm happy with how it went but the re application of the labels has made it a touch scruffy. Hopefully it lasts for a few more games for my team mate. He will be using it this Sat so I'll let you know if it survives.
If anyone knows how to reduce the size of the images I'm posting let me know, hosted on imageshack, taken with an iPhone.

Looks like a good job done. I probably would have put edge tape all the way down the bat. Looks like it needs a touch of oil?

This makes me physically sick looking at these photos :(
I hope the repair holds for a while, you'll have to tell us all how it feels in the hands when playing shots.
-
Why physically sick
-
Seeing a bat in so much pain, You should ask Matt at H4L to see if you can get some new stickers for it.
-
From previous experience he is very reluctant to send labels out, fair enough too.
-
That is some nice repair work.

Hated the way the labels and tape looked so took them off and re applied the tape, looks much tidier now. For the first time in a couple of years our game was rained off so the bat wasn't tested.
