Post by: The Palmist on January 09, 2016, 02:52:55 PM
Hey Folks

Got an invitation  to travel with a friendly team for a week of cricket  in Portugal in a place called Coimbra.

Any one got local ideas how to best make use of time while we out there.

Don't know the specific area but Portugal is renowned for year round good weather, golf, wine & beaches.  Add cricket to that and looks like you're in for a good trip mate!  :D

Been there, nice place. Didn't play cricket - I was covering the World Angling Champs. It's a bit of a way from the coast. Big university town and big on lots of sports there too.

I was on tour there last year, and going back in June.

A week would be a stretch to keep your self busy - Coimbra is a nice town, a few decent bars etc.  Very much a uni place.

Where are you staying?

Not decided where we will be staying, let me know any nice areas worth travelling  to locally on a day or night trip

Love Coimbra - good steak dinners in some of the smaller restaurants.

We were just in Coimbra or Miranda where the cricket is/was. Played 5 games in 3 days so didn't have a huge amount of time to sightsee...

You could spend a day in Coimbra, interesting town. Porto isn't far on the train.

Though I don't know exactly about portugal, Brazil is renowned for its Steak so I imagine Portugal could well be similar. Steak is hardly a British thing.
