Hi all
I was watching a rather nice looking Chase on eBay last week.
It was listed at 99p and available for collection not too far from me.
Chase also happen to be my local bat maker and having had a couple of lovely sticks from them I have a real soft spot for the brand.
Big thanks must go to @Chad for reminding me to bid haha.
Back to my story, I exchanged text messages with the seller and arranged to collection the bat today. What should have been a 20 minute drive took me 45 minutes due to the traffic, but the bat is now safely in my posession.
I'll start off by posting the eBay pictures and will update the thread as I clean her up.
P.S does anyone more informed thanks me know how old this bat is? From the stickers and the lamitoe bwing fitted as standard i'm guessing it's about 10 years old.

Cracking buy, if you didn't get it, I would have! ;) Gorgeous shape... :)

Used a few Chase bats, never been disappointed. Great looking piece of willow, well found!!
-
Well I have removed the persished grip and the scuff sheet, and I'm quite excited to start working on this one!
I haven't measured or weighed the bat, but it is a lovely traditional profile, with a mid-low sheet spot and very full back. The bat has 8 fairly even straight grains, with a couple of pinknots on the right handers outside edge.
There's some slight toe damage which the Lamitoe has prevented going too far (why did Chase stop fitting these as standard?) And there are a few kit bag dings on the back. It also looks as if the top of the handle has been used to put stumps in too, but there isn't a lot I can do about that. For the age it's in very good condition and shouldn't take too much work to get it looking very nice again.

Looks a beauty
-
I'm sure that's the same kind of bat used by Matthew Hoggard circa 2005
-
Yes it is @OwzatOllie
Excellent obscure sponsorship knowledge there mate. Hopefully if I use this I'll bat just like Hoggy! :D
I have some good memories of using Chase kit in my youth, and as a youngster I always wanted a 175. I finally got myself one around 2011, then discovered this forum so it hasn't got as much use as it should have as I get through about 10 bats a season. I still have my original chase 150 and I now have 2 175s in my collection! A return to using (what I suppose now qualifies as vintage) Chase gear for 2016 perhaps? :D

Looks a cracker Cam, nice shape, grains and I like the stickers. Look forward to seeing it after you have done a refurb

Just imagine it with the toe being the same colour as the rest of the face, then a white grip and a helicopter scuff being applied! ;)
It really won't take too much work to get it looking near it's best again.
All I have to decide is whether to steam the dings in the back or leave them, as they really aren't anything major and steaming the back would ruin the rather good finish of the bat.
-
You can't see much from the picture as muggins here put the bat in a drying position before taking any... :-[
I got my syringe out and got some glue down the toe, I just need to let that dry and I'll see where to go from there. I'm thinking a couple of days in the garage to take in some moisture (ad that scuff sheet has been on there years) then I'll give it a fine sand, a coat of oil and apply a scuff sheet. So far so good, looking like a good purchase :D

Glue dry, face and edges sanded with my orbital sander and 240 grit paper.
Once I got the wood all one colour and the toe level, I gave the whole bat a sand with 400 grit. I decided to leave the minor dings in the back as they were only cosmetic marks, and they'd be back as soon as the bat goes in a kit bag, why ruin the finish by steaming dents out to just put the dents back in a week later.

That's a beautiful looking classic bat. Great buy.
-
Looks a great job cam really good buy that mate would love to have a hit when we have our next net
-
Sure thing Si, I plan to get it finished this weekend so I'll definitely bring it along to our next net.
-
2nd coat of oil put on, scuff sheet and 1.5 grips applied.
I left a couple of marks in the back because it's an old bat and it wasnt worth making the back uneven by sanding them out.
For the price I'm really pleased with how the bat has ended up. I think I can put this one down as a decent buy! ;)
And photobucket is down, so this finished refurb never happened...

That's come up lovely. Great job.
-
Other than sorting the minor toe damage it took next to work at all. I can't wait to give it a go in the nets now :D
