Title: Searching for a new club - Windsor area
Post by: jimba101 on January 19, 2016, 07:51:08 PM
Hi Chaps

I have recently moved down south to start a new job and I am therefore looking for a cricket club in the local area to play for. Before getting in contact with a few clubs myself i thought i'd see if anyone on here plays / has played for a club in the area.

Unfortunately my new position means that I will be working on Saturdays so it would need to have a Sunday and/or midweek side.

I live in Windsor at the moment so just as local as possible really, I must admit i don't know the area particularly well so any recommendations welcomed.

James

Egham, Englefield Green, Staines & Laleham, Ascot, Wraysbury, Chertsey. All half-decent clubs with Sunday sides.

The TVL is your oyster! Plenty of decent clubs. You can afford to be a bit fussy and Windsor might not be the best setup for you. For example in not sure how much they can cover there tracks, being public land. My old club Marlow has a great setup and less than 30 mins drive but so are alot of clubs. Scan down the TVL website and feel free to ask me mine or manormanic thoughts.

I have played the odd match for them too - one of the best grounds I have seen!!

Hello all

Could someone comment on the strength of the TVL versus the Chiltern League?
I've played a couple season div 5 in TVL and found it pretty easygoing. Just wondering if I should stay in touch and join a club in a higher doc or move to chiltern league.

Thanks

Children league is way below tvl! If you play div 5 tvl you could easily play that level. Best bet is to move up a div or two. Div3 TVL was a significant jump up from 5/4.

Not played div 1 chiltern league myself but I'm pretty sure the top divisions of the tvl are a higher level. The Chilterns league is effectively a village league and the tvl is the dominant club level league in the area.

And if I remember correctly TVL feeds directly into Home Counties PL, so is probably a higher level

Yes it does. One week in tvl 4, next week HC Western Feeder!. Cherwell and TVL feed into HC Div2 now the Herts League has pulled out.

Old thread so apologies for the bump!

Having played TVL div 4, and currently play in Chilterns div 1, in my opinion the Chilterns div 1 is of a higher standard than TVL div 4. I played a handful of games in TVL 3 and again I would say the standard in Chilterns 1 was higher than the handful of teams I faced in TVL 3.

From speaking to my team mates and a couple of guys who have played high TVL and Home Counties but now playing in Chilterns, they believe that there are 3, maybe 4, clubs in Chilterns which would hold their own in TVL 2/top of TVL 3. Unfortunately in Chilterns 1 there is quite a big gulf in standard between the top 4 or 5 clubs in Div 1 and the bottom 5 or 6 clubs. A couple of sides I played last year would have struggled in TVL 5 or 6 I reckon - naming no names but a look at the table would reveal the clubs in question. To look at it another way, Wraysbury who finished 3rd or 4th last season, got to the national knock out stages of the Village Cup so there are definitely some good players in the league.

And Wargrave is a bit far from Windsor just for Sunday cricket...lovely ground mind. Closer to home, Cookham Dean, Taplow, White Waltham all have Sunday sides and all of them have nice grounds. I know nothing about Windsor CC and their set up so I can't comment on them.
