Hi guys, bought this bat off Ebay a few months ago and would like your opinions on whether it's the real deal?
GOOD POINTS - Seems correct shape. Relatively good grains. Nice finish on the bat.
DODGY BITS - Toe guard does not have 'Newbery' on. No shoulder stamps.
Seller had 100% feedback and had sold various sports items including cricket gear in the past with positive feedback.
When I questioned him about the above points he said he never has and never will supply fakes, he got the bat direct from Newbery and if I wanted the bat replacing with a bat with a Newbery toe guard he would do it no problem.
I emailed Newbery also but got no reply.
For the price I paid I am happy with the bat irrespective of who the actual maker is. The bat looks good, the pickup is great and the bat responds really well. I just want a bit of clarification as if I ever sell it in I don't want to sell a bat that could be a fake!
Here are the pics:

Looks ok, but best to confirm with Newberry
-
Looks almost identical in shape to the one I have.
-
If youre happy with the product for the price paid who cares!
Had you bought it blank would you be happy with it? If yes then just see the stickers as an added bonus :)
-
Cheers for input guys. Shape does look spot on. I've read before that not all Newbery bats have shoulder stamps on but not sure if this is correct? The seller said that some toe guards have Newbery on and some don't, just depends what stock they have at the time. Also not sure if this is correct? Fairly thin handle with the one grip on. @RoCo Da Pixie is the handle on yours quite thin?

Answer to that is in the original post!

When I got my Mjolnir custom direct from Newbery, there were no shoulder stamps :)

Yes it is an oval handle but a very thin one. I had to put a second grip on it and that has worked well.

That was my point, Andy! ;)
As for handles, one of my teammates has a Kudos 2 and the handle is like a toothpick, your bat's looking good to me (but I'm no expert on Newbery)
-
Have the shoulders got a little bit of wood taken out like the IJC Platinum? Looks right but the pic isn't great. I wouldn't worry about the branding on the toe guard, considering how many other bats will be made in that workshop for other companies this may have been an oversight. The ones i've had the toe guards seem to have a white chalky residue on them

@JB small bit of wood taken out of the back of each shoulder, yes.

@WalkingWicket37 meant the bit in my original post where I said about if I ever sold the bat on. That's why I cared if it was genuine or not.
With regards the handle, a toothpick is a fair description.

If you look at the Lukeys bat in this thread you can see the shoulders and the toe guard residue

Roll the grip down and Let's have a look at the binding and the 'knob' at the top of the handle, that will be a big clue as to who made it
-
Without seeing the binding based on the pics I say it's genuine
-
I'll get a pic of the binding and 'knob'! Ooh matron. :-[
-
@Vitas Cricket sorry about pic quality, got this one then camera/iPad gave up!
Binding looks to have a good coating of pva or similar on? Thin handle and 'knob' is not particularly big!

Not the best photo as you said, but i think i see what i need to see.
I'm no expert on Newbery bats as we don't stock them. The batmaker they use has a few traits, JB has mentioned some info which may be of use, based on the pic and what you've said about the handle, i'd say the bat was made by their maker. Given the genuine looking stickers and what appears to be the right shape, i'd say it's real.

Somewhere Mr Cattus' brain is exploding at all the potential innuendo opportunities going to waste here!

That binding looks like the 3 others I've had made by the batmaker there. It's thicker than other binding I've seen and always has a nice shine to it. I'd say genuine.
-
For me the binding confirms the bats authenticity
-
Looks like more than likely an authentic Newbery then. Thanks for all your posts and help guys.
-
Looks authentic to me. Kudos is about a 1cm shorter blade and longer handle. That is expensive to copy. Compare it to another sh bat. Videos on #itsjustcricket show this feature.
