Title: Kookaburra Ghost Cricket Bat
Post by: Cublingtoncc on January 24, 2016, 09:31:33 PM
Whilst at a net session toady down at Redbourne (choice cricket) I went into the shop to buy a new ball.

Whilst browsing the shelfs I saw a kook ghost 500 and I was baffled how much of a beast it is.

I was just wondering if anyone has one or used one and is it any good for the retail price of £180

Have been thinking exactly the same recently so just ordered myself one from VKS!! 2lb 8oz which I think is pretty rare and my perfect weight so I am hoping for a cracker.

My bat arrived yesterday having been posted by VKS on Monday - great service. I had only contacted them late on Sunday night about getting a light Ghost and despite the time of day they sent me pictures and answered my questions really promptly.

It's just 2lb 8oz, has very straight grains and picks up really well. I love the oval handle which is really unusual for Kookaburra bats but works very well. The size is unbelievable - 42mm edges at thickest point and still 20mm at the toe. Big spine. It has very little concaving, hardly any really, and responds well off the mallet.

The stickers are just great and give it a classy, classical look despite the modern features such as big edges and flat face. It will probably be the last bat I buy before the 2016 season starts but what a bat! Initial impressions are as good as any bat I have had up to now.

I only seem to be able to find the 500 anywhere to look at, anyone know of anywhere with the Ghost Pro in stock or am I better sticking with a Kahuna?

There is no such thing as a Ghost Pro, they only come in the 500 range this year at least. Any Ghost Pro bats you might have seen on here or elsewhere are not the same as the 500, they are just stickers given to Pro's or stickers applied to contracted Pro players bats. There is a thread floating around on this forum showing someone who went to the UK Kookaburra warehouse and bought a Ghost Pro but the shape of the bat looks nothing like the massive 500.

Is there anything different about a Ghost? Is it a long handle / short blade thingy?

I believe there regular short handle, but not sure if that's the one that the blade slopes slightly front to back, making it standard width at the front of the blade but slightly narrower at the back?

The ones I picked up and flashed around at @Vitas Cricket were very nice, and I would echo the comments from others that they are a good looking G3 for sure.

I was bouncing a ball on a Ghost 500 at Asad's shop and was so damn tempted to take it!
The one I had was 2'10 and 40mm+ edges and no concaving. The mid middle seems to give it a decent feel and balance too!
A lovely profile and the stickers look stunning.

Am wondering if Kook could have deliberately made a load of G2 Ghosts and called them G3 as a marketing exercise. I still haven't seen one that looks anywhere near G3 willow.

They're able to keep the weight down by tapering the width at the BACK of the bat. So while the face is full width, the back of the bat is actually narrower. I personally wouldn't care, but thats how they've gotten these specs / weight.

Why is the pro unique to cricket direct? Anyone know?

Vitas cricket, what's the difference in your experience.

Specs wise Ghost is one the best bats available under 200 GBP. The one i got has 44 mm edges, 68 mm spine, No concaving at 2-11. Kook says it is a G3 but all the bats i saw on forum including mine looks G2.

I think Jake has mentioned this before in another thread but if I remember basically if any single retailer orders 100 units of a bat they can have their own range so say a shop wanted the ghost in 750 grade they could have it if they bought 100 units or something along those lines

Anyone noticed any width difference in Top end Kook bats last and this season? Reason being they are made by SG and all the SG bats with full profiles are shorter on width to get the desired weight and size I guess.
