I promised myself that no more bats! But, I am feeling weak. :D
What are the specs of that BAS that Amla uses? Anyone knows Amla? Can I buy one of his knocked bats?
-
From the pictures I have seen he does not use anything special in terms of shape. Looks very similar to an off the shelf BAS. BAS tend to do 3 shapes in any model so can be a little random at times. There is a mid to high similar to CA, spine in to the toe bit of concaving, then there is the mid middle spine rounded in to the toe pretty full shape and finally mid to low pretty full shape spine rounded in to the toe. Amla's bat looks similar to the mid to high middle, maybe with a few minor tweaks.
-
You are right, it is a mid to high shaped bat.
What about weight? Ball races to the boundary when he drives!!
-
Its clearly a phenomenal piece of wood. He is a test player you'd expect that. But the ball will be traveling quicker when it reaches him than the average club player because of the pace of the bowling and pitch quality. Let's not forget the quality of the ability of the fella holding it to time it and find the sweetest spot of the sweet sport

from what i know, he uses a very light bat, around 2.6

I heard it was 2'5 and a lightweight cleft. I think they were discussing it during one of the tests.

Yes I heard it as well with an high middle
-
That probably owes more to the fact he's an unbelievable player :)
Nope! Everyone on the forum knows it's the bat! That's why we all have 10+ bat's and if we get out it's the bat's fault!

10+ only?
Amateurs. :D

2lb 5 oz that is crazy light especially from a company like BAS as they rarely produce bats below 2lb 9oz. Lightest one I have seen was 2lb 7.4oz.
-
I noticed the recent bats he has been using don't have the BAS stamp on the edges
-
May well be mistaken but during last test I'm sure I heard 2lb 8oz mentioned?
-
I don't think his bats have edge stamps because of the new regulations (something to do with hotspot)
-

they may have literally meant 2.5 oz, which would be 2 lb 8oz.
-
Just a thought - commentators chat quite often about bat weights, but I'm going to assume they haven't been round the nets with a set of scales, so I doubt they're too reliable! Been plenty of examples of contradictions with what players themselves have said.

No they were quite specific, ie. 2 pounds 5 oz . they were talking about how light his bats were. I'm sure you could Google it to get a consensus.

Yes Cam due to hotspot some companies have stopped applying edge stamps others have move them closer to the shoulder

And judging by Sangakarra's recent bats, SS have started applying Gray Nicolls edge stamps to theirs! ;)

During the all stars I think sanga mentioned he had got a bat off Warner, so this could be that very bat. Absolute monster.

I have seen (repaired) one BAS bat that was supposed to go in Amla’s Kit and this client got it directly from the manufacturer with the help of someone’s contact in Jalandhar. The commentators were absolutely correct in quoting the weights of his bats. That bat that I repaired was indeed 2lb 5oz. It’s handle was typical thin and round and it pinged off beautifully. It surely was one of the best bats ever I have laid my hands on.

Not surprised some pros use extra light bats so they have that fraction faster reaction times and bat speeds...
BDM custom made one for me was 2lb 4oz SH around 38mm edges and 65mm spine no concaving Kohli profile

Can you ask them to make another like that for me?
