Title: A new blade from Woodstock...
Post by: JG on February 03, 2016, 12:12:06 PM
I know this may be somewhat of a profane brand to be getting kit from being a part-made specialist (take with a pinch of salt you lot!!) here in the UK, but anyway it is a new stick so I thought I would show it off, 'cos hey what is this forum for??  :D

Onto the bat; I had got sent out one from his new range for 2016 the 'Classic CVX' in the players LE grade and it is most certainly a looker. Once again however, a distinct lack of scales can only lead me to speculate on the weight of this bat but it has to be said that the profile is nice and full. This isn't my first Woodstock and it is highly unlikely to be my last either because of how it goes off the mallet and ball.

Now getting to the good bit, the vital specs:

Edge:                              37mm
Spine:                             58mm
Weight:                           Assuming something around 2.11
Pick up:                           2.10 ish?
Middle position:               Mid but its nice both higher and lower of the middle position
grains:                            A beautiful 14 with about an inch of heartwood
Profile:                            Full

Enjoy the pictures guys  :D

Wow looks like a beauty.
How much did you pay for that?

Have they made their stickers smaller or is that a very long splice?

Nice Bat. Is the CVX just a model designation or does it mean something else?

The stickers look smaller than that on the other bats i've had. Also I assume that the CVX aspect of the bat stands for convex in terms of the profile, maybe? It is a beautiful bat but adds to my dilemma regarding bats  :-[

Aaah Right, I was thinking more in line with the Roman numeral aspect of it.

It would have to be CXV to make sense in Roman I think, CXV would be 115.

Never had a hit with a Woodstock but played against a lad who had one the other year and even though it looked about 10 years old (dark well oiled and tiny edges) it went like crazy.

Hope it gets you plenty of runs!

Not too sure to be honest, seems a bit more rubber-like material than what you see on most bats. Good thing about speaking to John @ Woodstock direct is that I was able to get him to select a better looking P-M bat for us, pings nicely so happy days 👍

Lovely shape, and good-looking stick of willow. I've a Woodstock and it's a crackingly fine bat. Some  folk get pointlessly snobby about part-makes. The skill is in the shaping and judging the pressing for each individual bat. Much less about a roughly-shaped cleft. You may as well get frothy-mouthed and indignant over every podshaver who doesn't grow their own willow trees. Or every one who uses a CNC machine.

I got mine in the new year and am so pleased with it but wish I got this profile instead, it is almost like mine but mine is concaved a fair bit.

Cheers folks, will post up a video poor quality video of how it goes off both ball and mallet without knocking in... If i'm not mistaken, I think this is the 5th or 6th Woodstock I've owned (hopefully without selling it this time!!) and cannot fault the quality of any of the ranges irrespective of whether its made from raw form or part made.

Superb quality and for me, the minimalist stickers in a burgundy/reddy brown are just something else and just adds to how good it looks. Typically, we all look for nice clean sapwood with X amount of grains but for me the little strip of heartwood on the inside edge (for me as a lefty) just gives it a little bit of character and each of the grains are nice and prominent. Very happy individual right here  :D :D

Lovely bat. Nice profile and great grains. I have owned a Woodstock in past and it was very good.

Would you by any chance have picture of top of handle?

As has been said already, lovely looking willow with a great profile, should surely play well, I haven't seen too many good looking planks tbh.

*UPDATE*

a very average ball test, one of which the ball went out of shot so decided to flip the camera to get more of the response distance in. Apologies for the poor quality of the shot but did it quickly before I head out.

Also, a little note is the handle, didn't know what was requested but hey ho! heres a couple of photos of the top of the handle and shoulders for the markings etc. A side note is that I asked for the handle to be shorter so it seems that the knob is slightly cut down but also the handle itself... What a poor explanation !!!  :-[
