Been experimenting over the winter with big massive bats and big weights and through evaluation from a coach and from myself involving heavy net sessions i have come to the end and this is the bat for me.
Surprise it not oversized or heavy it suits me both in terms of swell position and also in weight.
The pick up is better than the tonto which surprised me as the middle is not as high up and the toe is thicker.
I have the hitting area where my cracks and marks are from all my bats and followed a simple pattern.
Choosing the cleft was important as i new after 4 different designs to get it exact what i wanted and around the weight i wanted i was left with not many clefts
at 400 this bat would be around 2-12 and a half finished so i new a 360 to get it down to around 2-8 and a half which i have been told and feel is really my optimum weight with this pick up which was tested on streaky new contraption which will be show very soon.
It will be used straight out of the wrapper on the bowling machine as i have knocked the edge in and toe and happy to bang and go.
So the cleft it has quite a number of grains which is unlike me and a knot further down the blade which add the character to my bat .
Why the square toe because it feels right like it and it what i wanted!!!
SO
Density 361
Weight 2-8.5 Oz (Scuffed and finished)
Spine 68mm
Edge 39mm
Profile Full 1mm concaving higher up blade
Shoulder 12mm
Toe At thickest point 25mm
Anyway enough Pictures

2.8 and a half??
Jesus Dave, that's a cracker - wish I'd seen this before my order now haha.
What's the lowest density you can do a 1 stripe? Looks need not be an issue...

I will ask streaky mate not sure as there over 1000 clefts in at minute i know half are processed into piles

That's an absolute beauty!

@procricket B3 this seems like the Mullanator with less concaving, and square toe.. no? Similar sweet spot location?

Different middle position, different size shoulders, different spine high and different into the handle no mate it not close to the mull pal it a different shape but i have a Mull.
Toe different and a different recess duck it's more like a Asian style bat as i ask B3 not to bone me edges and leave the front and back edge square mate.

Dude, we gotta work on your punctuation...takes a few minutes to decipher your posts ;)
-
Na thanks it's about passion not punctuation but thanks mate!!! I will get buy with using my elbows on the keyboard.
If i'm honest i don't really know what punctuation is i know it marks and stuff i hope people understand what i write ???

Not sure where do you get these names from but the bat looks a belter and its an lovely shape. One more bat added to your collection. ;)

Latin mate or thats what i thought it was "FINAL DESIGN" i think was trying to be intelligent !!!!!

Very cool, Davio!
Looks like Clarkey's profile. What do you think?

It not a million miles off it really middle slightly different and not as big a duckbill but no your not far off.
It a mixture of a few Kholi,Clarke,Finch, and my Tonto it a culmination of bats.
-
Looks a cracker! Will be interesting to hear more on this pick up testing invention. :D
-
That's a real good profile Dave, had it been 2 weeks earlier I would have requested for this bat. Simple yet efficient design.
-
Lucky your involved with b3 Dave as the amount of bats that you've had made that have had tweaks, looks a good shape. Where in cm from the toe is the middle position for you? As this looks like it's mid low due to the big swell near the toe.
-
around 180cm from the toe mate strange pick up it picks up better than tonto but i always ask for heavy handles.
Just feels right you know when you pick a bat up and it just feels made for you this is it !!!!
-
Another stunner out of B3 8)

My area of cracks are from 12-18cm, so the reason I had the middle put there. Always good to design your own bat in where you hit the ball, and a massive bonus when you prove yourself right.

agree mate indoor it tends to be around 21-24mm but thats the bounce i think when i changed my stance to be more upright it obviously effected where i hit the ball slightly lower than in the past.
-
Is it a crown? the stickers dont show crown but i thought low density clefts are only available in crown.
Lovely shape, my favorite. Hope it pings like a rifle.

No mate not a crown it is low density but with the knot was downgraded and in the 3 stripe pile....

Nice bit of wood that, like the marks innit, and if that means you get a bargain, win win
Nice profile for the weight too,
-
I like this bat. Lovely shape.
-
This bat should be called the Canners and you know it 😉
-
ha ha nearly mate nearly but not quite!!!
Used tonight on machine was very nice pick up super and feels good

Your bat reminds a bit of Steve Smith NB profile. What the design number of this bat ? :D
-
That swell and toe shot looks awesome
-
What's the magic number for that one, Dave?
The pictures made me go all moist!
-
My kind of bat, if the weight can be turn around 2-7, lovely grain
-
4305 is the number however.
I have finally stopped messing around with shapes its important people know what handle type they want roughly where they want the sweet spot and the pick up and weight to a degree because dead weight is not really the be and end all.
Basically i should have listened to streaky quite a while ago he has something like this designed and i thought i new best.
B3 has helped me change my perception but whats great is the service from the boys maybe i should have listened more to streaky then mess around with stuff when the answer was always there.
For me bespoke is the way to go because your expectations will be meet by reality in what your trying to do and what is possible to be done.
I can not recommend the bat consultation enough when creating even if i was resistant it it the way to go.
-

Marks roughly two inch higher than optimum power zone but this is due to bounce of the indoor surface.
Well after my net the other night used it twice spent around a hour on the edges and toe it is my favourite bat and in truth ruined all my other bats.
Pick Up
I call it the air bat although i have moved away from the big shoulder counter balance theory however with the slight duckbill and extra heavy handle which i did ask for it has countered it brilliantly and gives the Air feeling in the profile making it feel really good neutral pick up.
Coverage
This is what i look for in a bat as let's be honest we do not always middle the ball as club cricketers so want as much coverage as possible. It has a mid middle in my eye but extends quite low and high and with the weight kept in the back by the full profile extends wide. The toe as per any bat and with the bill is what it is (it will not go for 6 off the toe)
Good all round bat for driving and back foot play.
Square toe does add weight and is not what streaky would advice however it feels better in the stance so i go for it however i suspect with the give indoor i will have to be very careful indeed.
Pressing
As per B3 as each cleft is it got what i call the stiff ready press yes you need to work on the edges and toe it goes from the off.
Overall
This bat has convinced me to go more to my natural weight and feel of a bat it feels a big bat and sturdy whilst in the net i only was looking to punch and force it felt bloody brilliant.
I do get lots made up in various concepts and designs some to show what can be done and some for finding the perfect bat.
IF YOU BESPOKE GET WHAT YOU WANT BUT DO ALLOW FOR THE GUYS EXPERTISE TO HELP YOU.
-
Life goal is to be able to test as many bats as you do mate, could do with having some funds first though haha
-
Really Nice Bat Dave.
I know what you mean about stiff press in the comment above, but man when they open up they go like brilliantly. I've knocked in nearly 60 bats this season for players and my club and my B3s perform better than the majority post knock and I don't have a 3 stripe or crown.
Now played in, I nearly killed short leg on Saturday after a juicy fall toss was given. I don't think i have ever felt a middle that good in 25 years of play. Convinced me.
Not a big fan of a flat toe and would recommend rounding the corners before the new ball does it for you lol. Inside edge repair is my common repair this season and a bit of deflection helps.
I think coverage is a misleading concept. Performance is product of the willow quality and pressing these days and swell where the more powerful spots come off. GN100 is good example. As the B3 is pressed prior to handling i think this is what this gives a large hitting area. I still like your old Zizi profile and hope to get my hands on it.
Good luck for the season ahead.
-
@procricket B3 what do you mean "heavy handles"? Just bigger?
-
Not for me pal coverage is not just a concept it is a fact inline with good pressing. Willow quality is another topic for another day...
But comments like your are most welcome pal and i have been keeping a eye on the blogs/facebook stuff very good mate and a good read.
Wish you the best and square toe is my thing agree it not for longevity but i just like it and will not round it off even though the good Doctor asks me to,
I do not even have my bats bones or anything i like the Asian looks of bats and B3 cater for me so all bases covered for me.
Your bat your way!!!!
-

No weight in the handle not bigger more weight some naturally are heavier i go for as heavy as i can within the size.

That's a great way to counterbalance. Bet it feels nice and agile in the hands.

Hi Dave, @procricket - I have a customer wanting a bat similar to this - could you DM me the number on the handle please pal.
Cheers streaky

4305, he mentioned it in one of the previous comments

I currently am using a square toe bat (NB 1080 limited edition), I think square toe with round face is a great mixture, like those b3 pics above mate.
I wanted to attach my bat pic but it says the picture size is too big. I will make a replica of that bat from B3 with a low density cleft

Use Photobucket mate and copy the link. If you use the forum search function there's loads of advice on the topic. Welcome to the forum also - a bat review / pics is always a good start

Great bat this B3- best pickup on any bat that I've used
