Was wondering if anyone knew the story behind MSR as I've seen them constantly on eBay. Is there a reason behind their low prices? Wouldn't touch one with a barge pole mind because of the suspicious nature of it all!
-
MSR aren't dodgy at all. They used to be sponsors on here.
It's really simple actually, they but a load of Pakistani made bats, and because they're bought at dirt cheap trade prices to start with and they buy in bulk they can afford to sell them on the cheap while still making a profit.
Steve has a huge warehouse full of bats you can apparently visit. I had an MSR net bat that was a lovely shape and performed so well a teammate borrowed it and I haven't seen it since...

Decent bats, I've had a few and various teammates still have also. Last one I had was actually the subject of a bidding war between two of my teammates when I moved it on! Not high end stuff and I broke a couple (pretty sure the toe exploding was as much my faults as the bats mind), but they've very very good value and Steve's service is excellent.

The guy is based in Stoke, I've been to his house and met him. He is 110% legit.

Just go to their website, will give you a pretty clear overview of what they're about!

have picked up a few bats of his in the past, some new to sell on and some secondhand to use myself, have found the willow is of a good quality (esp. as the bats are quite 'hard') people i've sold them onto have been happy (esp. at the price) only issue i find (and i think it has been mentioned on CBF by others) is the handles - they are not very good - often too thin and break very easily - they do not seem very well constructed when you take off the string

£80 a bargain? It's £30 for a blank butterfly!
-
I was going by their website pricing, but £30 sounds even better

Write up in eBay about their business is very clear. I'm definitely planning to try buying one for the club. Mainly for the tail enders. They break more than a couple of bats every season

Msr are very clear about how they do business and why there bats can be so cheap. There eBay pages there website all explain it in a lot of detail.
Half an aleffortnto search would have given you many an answer regarding.
As for the bats, there two or three at our club that are very very good bats. Last a while and ping beautifully.
There many about on this forum too, most but as cheap net bats then rave about how good what turned up actually is.

Cheers for the info guys, when it comes to bats that price I've usually gone 'it's too good to be true,' especially from experiences I've had in the past, hence the reason why I asked on here. Seen many lie about things like this online so thought first hand experience would give me a better answer.

All legit and above board as others have testified. I've had a few off him a few years ago for myself as net bats and for team mates. He's always willing to root around and find something specific weight and shape wise to suit your budget.

4561 at 100% positive ebay feedback is usually a pretty good indicator too

Had a couple of MSR bats. 1 was bought as a very last minute replacement for a broken Red Back as I was desperate and skint and I loved it that much I bought another a few months later!
-
Can vouch he's totally legit - almost went for one myself, but all round handles (that he had in at the time) :(

Also Steve offers pretty good service if something goes wrong with the bat he sorted most people out. If you intend on smashing yorkers for six thats a different story but things like handles etc should be fine.
