G'day from downunder.
I just received my L&W Private bin. Pics attached.

Yep, that blemish has got me disappointed. It has 13 grains but I would rather have 10 without any spots. IMO, it is a premium bat and should look the part. I was expecting a little better for a Private bin. Came with an oval C10 handle with two grips as requested. Pickup and dead weight (around 2.10) are good. Pickup is good but not phenomenal. Something else that I noticed, the bat has a effortless swing to it and with the oval handle feels very nice.
I am not sure if it's knocked in or not, haven't tested it yet.
But that blemish... I might chat to L&W about this.

I like it, lovely little butterfly stain!
-
Isn't "Private Bin" third down the order? After Signature and Reserve?
-
That my perfect bat right there.
Grains. Check
Heartwood right hand edge. Check
Butterfly blemish. Check
A lovely looking piece of wood.
As for if its right for description, well laver says its there grade 1. Although there's is 3 other grade 1 above it.
And the description is atleast 6 grains and great balance.
They do not say it won't be blemished.

Oh my word!
That gets your attention !
I dare not even ask what you paid for that, I would at least hope it's the best performing piece of willow on the planet?
Then again, I think I'm turning into some sort of weird bat snob in my old age
I can't stop staring at IT, it's like cindi crawfords mole
I want it so much!!!ha

Signature, reserve ultra, reserve and then private bin.

Yip, I'd be disappointed with the butterfly as I too am a bat snob. It will be gone after a few nets though when the scuffs from the ball cover it. Laver will generally here your concerns though and look to rectify it.
-
Unless you paid top of the range Grade 1 prices for it I'd be over the moon with that.
Heartwood in the right place, plenty of straight even grains and a butterfly stain.
Batgasm if I've ever seen one!

You mean you don't remove all the marks from your scuff sheet after every net?
That is blasphemy of the highest order! And you claim to be a bat snob...

Any chance of seeing the profile please

Thanks for the replies everyone. Maybe I am asking for too much here, but everyone seems to be in love with the butterfly stain. I think it has already started growing on me. Almost gives the bat a unique character. Oh and being a LH batsman, the heartwood is on the outside for me which is a plus.
The other bat is a SG player's edition weighing at about 2.12 with two grips. It has slightly bigger edges than the laver but the laver's spine depth is just wow!

Thats a lovely profile. My toro has a few marks on it very similar to that and it goes like the clappers!! I think it adds character to the bat, how does it respond?
-
I've had plenty of L&W bats over the past 10 or so years and have noticed that there are more blemishes on the bats than there used to be. Possibly a result of making and selling more bats. One thing that hasn't changed is that the bats perform and pick up beautifully, regardless of the grade and their customer service is first class. Response time can vary but the outcome in my case has always been more that fair and reasonable.

Haha, I haven't tested it yet with a ball but sounds very nice with a mallet. I paid about 280 pounds.

Beautiful bat
-
For me that stain is visually disappointing also the stained area could be harder but the bat should go well though.

The stain isn't in the middle of the hitting area though so even if it is harder it shouldn't affect performance. It's almost purely aesthetic in this case, don't you think?

Beautiful bat that, the butterfly gives it a little character! Wanted a L&W for ages, would have to find some blank gloves and pads to make sure I didn't brand clash haha
-
I see some 90+ meter sixes comes out of it :D

Cam
The imperfection stain in the willow won't affect performance also it should help make the blade stronger.

Looks beautiful. I wouldn't worry that much about the stain/blemish. Got a chance to use a grade 2 bat L&W last week. Performance is outstanding !

Yup, sounds about right for a Laver. Great shape too!

My Legend is a trampoline.

"My legend is a trampoline" haha, nice.
Ohh the bat came knocked in too! I am very stoked with this. I tested the ping with a ball, yep I can see why bats like L&W are seen in high regard in the cricket world. The SG is no slouch either but the SG has had a couple of net sessions. I am guessing the Laver will improve a little after a couple of net sessions.

My Legend is a trampoline.
I won't doubt that for a second ... I tried both Legend and Special Reserve (i believe former is grade 2 and latter is grade 1) weighing at 2lb12oz. Friend mentioned that he asked Anthony for Brendon McCullum profile and they did it for him. Oval handle and distinct clunk sound on hitting the ball was quite new to me, but all in all it performed really well. I should think twice before buying a Kook Kahuna 900 grade 2 bat at 350 USD when i can get the Legend from Laver at 300 USD !

My Legend was made as a net bat in the same profile as the "Reserve" to prolong the latter. I took my Legend to a match for the heck of it. After two boundaries, I had to make sure that I wasn't swinging my Reserve. It became my match bat but I got paranoid about breaking such a nice bat. So I put it away and bought another bat. Reserve never saw any match action and his younger brother, Legend, is also enjoying a nice retirement. 😀

From recent review L&W opens up nicely after few net sessions, I am really thinking about getting one as well.
-
That thing looks perfect, RH inside edge heartwood and a cheeky little butterfly, as others have said I'd love that!

If iam not mistaken, private bin is at third place after signature and reserve

Private Bin with C10 handle. I love the honeycomb centre. Very intriguing. Wish I could store some honey in there and have a little nip during matches. Probably attract a few bees too.
I have only used it twice and that too during net sessions. Lovely bat, I don't want to take it to the games as I am not the sharing type.

Enjoy, Lavers are a treat!

Wow .. Looks really nice ...
