Title: Moeen
Post by: Calzehbhoy on February 09, 2016, 03:06:50 PM
What is the hype about how good a #9 he is?

He plays the odd silky cover drive, apart from that he just seems to always disappoint with the bat. Especially against anybody with a bit of pace about them.

Moeen, I think you need to add Jordan into the mix as well, useless fart!

He bat's 8, other than that he averages 27 and 29 in tests and ODI's, that'd compare pretty well with most number 8's through history I'd have though, even if he is probably a little disappointed with those stats himself.

Moeen bats at 3 for his county but bats at 8 for England. Therefore it shows he's not really international class but England lack a proper spinner so Moeen's bits and pieces get him a gig.

Sorry 8 not 9, so even worse stats.

I just don't get the big commentator hype about his batting... It's just fairly bang average.

What do other current number 8's average?

How about the runs he's made at 8 that supplement England's batting, especially during the ashes?.or the valuable wickets he's picked up, regularly getting top batsmen at crucial times?

It's tough batting at 8, usually you don't get time to play a decent knock and the games progressed enough that it dictates the way you play. Yes a selfless player and I'd much rather that than a selfish one.

I'm with Boycott on this. It's not just his stats. Look at his contributions at crucial times in games. That's why he's a regular in test and odi cricket. And remember, by both standards he's still making his way. Only gonna get better.

Averaging close to 30 batting at 8, the highest average batting at 8 (min 20 innings) is 37, dont think hes doing much too wrong batting wise.

I love his commitment - saw an opening as a bowler, and worked hard at it.

Love the English mentality. We are about to go 3-0 up in southa frica and should win 5-0 here.

Yet we are still moaning, why is moeen at 8 he's poor, whys Jordan in the side he can catch and it's about it, why is topley here, we've got one left armed already. Etc etc.

Just sit back and enjoy that we are winning for once!

^ exactly.  You have to invest in players, otherwise it's counter productive.  What, we want him to average 45-50 batting at number 8?  Who's ever done that?!

He could bat anywhere from 4-8.  He's part of an England team who are building for the future and players like Moeen, Root, Stokes, Bairstow are the core of a team that;s only going to get better.  And they're winning.  He;s a selfless player doing a decent, but not spectacular job.  Many with less ability have had decent test careers.

Any sensible person knows moeen isn't good enough for test cricket, he's literally the best of a very very poor spin department so gets a gig. He's not even close to being a top six batsmen but he is good for a number 8, so he does add value to the batting line up.

White ball cricket wise, he's actually decent IMO. Ok, he's not more than average but he's no worse than a lot of bits and pieces all rounders in the white ball game.

Jordan is just awful and offers nothing but catching (at which he has got to be one of the best ever)

What do I know! 2-1 now, if we wanna win 4-1 better change the side, Ali, Jordan and topley out. England are useless. Blah blah blah.
