So I'm stuck in 2 minds of getting some SFs... Now being the tight git I am and unless i really need them (which being in CBF, need isnt the case, want is) I cant seem to justify the £100+ for both inner and outer thigh guards.
Obviously they are very popular amongst everyone here and noone seems to have a bad word to say about them so +1
However im quite tall and from my hip to knee measures a fair bit and dont want to order one for it to be wrong, -1.
I don't want to buy something ive also not been able to try first which is a pity, -1.
But the level of protection and whole design of it really pleases me, again +1
So stuck with negatives canceling out positives... Anyone able to offer some advice maybe some of the sponsors?
Also how ling have these lasted for people? I've had my P1s for a good 6 years now and dont bat without them... I dont even notice im wearing them!

They are all custom made, when I bought mine George sent me some templates to give a rough idea of shape and size, but you can get your guards made to fit you.
As well as the fit/shape being totally bespoke, you can get virtually any artwork you like on them.
All that said I sold mine on and went back to a pair of P2 Strippers. They may not be a bespoke fit and they do leave a fleshy gap that the strettons didn't, but I just prefer them for a reason I can't even explain myself.
Strettons are a top quality (some would even go as far as to say the best in the world at what they do) product, but for all the plus points they just weren't for me.

I think you have answered your own question.

Yeah sounds like the same predicament im in.

I've gone for just the large outer thigh pad first to see what it's like, I needed a new thigh pad and considered Remfrys, Strippers and other stripper type pads like the GM and SG ones but I thought I'd treat myself plus the customisation really added to the sale.
Yes it might be expensive but it's gonna be with me for a few years so thinking of it as an investment made it okay in my mind to buy.

Well you're one up on me already, you've come on here and asked opinions. I shelled out £110 to find out if they were for me, decidee they weren't then sold them on at a loss after a season of trying and failing to love them :-[

One of my teammate is tall and he was unable to get a thigh guard which would cover him nicely. His outer thigh pad is problem as long as my shins (I am 5.11 by the way). So, size won't be an issue really. Plus George will ensure he gets them right for you in first try.
As far longevity is concerned, mine are over three years old and still are in immaculate condition.
Here is a review which I had done three years ago between P1 vs Stretton Fox vs Remfry;

At last, I can not speak highly of @StrettonFox Sports (George), he is most genuine and considering person you'll ever deal with (hands down).

I'm 5.11 but wanted to have no gaps In protection. So got a larger set from stretton. He sent me the templates, I tried them on, altered a tad. And he made my pads to that spec.
I bought a standard men's size of here, and couldn't believe how small they was compared to my custom size ones.
Took 2 nets worth of bending and playing with a trap location, and boom. There spot on, fit me perfectly and don't move.
When on I forget there there(including chest guard I have due to a dodgy spleen), and when hit I have yet to feel anything through them.
Mallet test is fun to do. No feeling!
Honestly there the best things I've bought r.e cricket period, I'd rate them even above my Warner bat.
Add to that George's customer service is second to none. I would hesitate buying more from him again. He is the man.

Hi Woodyspin and thanks everyone for the very kind comments!
I'd honestly say if you are happy with what you have from a performance pov then stay with it. The most important part is the protection and how comfortable you feel as a batter. If you feel vulnerable or not secure at the wicket, that's going to influence your game as you may not commit properly to shots. Every one has their own preference to what works and 6 years of something working for you sounds good!
My only suggestion is if you know anyone who has a set to try them out in a net session, but, if you're happy with what you've got and it ain't broke... )
The custom side of things is very cool and it's the most fun part for me working with players who want something really personal, it's like getting a suit made for you. Not for everyone! but it's always good to know the options there.
Hope this helps :)

I could be wrong, but I thought George has a version 2 off-the-shelf 'softer' thighpad set in the works? Might be worth waiting for if that's right.
In any case, I've a pair of customised Stretton guards, and they're flippin' great.

The off the shelf range is making progress and will be selling for about £40-50 for a set of thigh pads, they are soft and flexible and offer about 80% of the protection which is still absolutely loads!
Off now to the factory to look at the samples, we're making progress but I'm very fussy!
Thanks everyone i'll keep you updated!
