Nelson! Trust you're standing on one leg, thegowerwaft

I saw that trailer earlier today. Does it imply that The Little Master used an (English made, naturally) M&H for his entire career?

Hey here's a video showing we hand make all or bats in England.

Firstly we made sachin bats, we can prove this buy an old interview of him talking over a black screen.

Then we hand make our bats, here's proof, firstly we take a pressed handled cleft from a cupboard, bind it, then sand it.

SSEE HAND MADE IN ENGLAND, I'm not sure why they was ever doubted. Time to move on.

Is every batmaker that has made tendulkar a bat going to make a video?

See, this is what does my head in with cricket bats
Why is there so much BS? Smoke and mirrors, whatever you want to call it
These plonkers bring out a film like this, that kids and those not in the know believe hook line and sinker.
Every man and his dogs made a bat for ST!
It still doesn't stop the fact, M&H ,are portraying the image of total uk bat production, whilst buying pre mades in, sanding the edges and putting their stickers on

Why not bring a longer film out like the one B3 have just released?
At least that shows there set up, and B3 encourage visitors to witness actual bat making in the uk.

It's a bit like Monty Python's Life of Brian.  I am Sachin's batmaker, and so is my wife.

Exactly and B3 is a great example, I went down to collect a bat I had ordered and they actively encouraged us (we didn't ask or even hint haha) to have a look around the workshop and the guy who led us round (his name escapes me!) was very open and happy to explain every process in detail from start to finish.

And you would get the same from Matt at h4l or Paul Aldred etc
These guys are incredibly proud of what they create and the positive effect it has on a cricketers life.
That's what for them, it's all about,

M&H? The arrogance is what gets me

Exactly right mate. Haven't had the pleasure of visiting any other bat makers in person but have dealt with Matt at H4L a couple of times and like you say, it's obvious that it's not just a money making exercise, it's their life and that comes across in both the service and the quality of the product.

Looking at the film, there looks to be a rack full of part mades ready to have the edges rounded off and stickers applied
That will be 350 each thank you

Then a stack of 50 clefts or so, to satisfy the public schoolboys who's mums have bought them a 'factory' visit for xmas, and the odd pro daft enough to use one of theirs.
How many did Compton score with that over concaved plank? Shoulda got M&H to make him one like Sachins

hahaha that video is ridiculous they could do the same thing with absolutely anyone, using a bat with someone elses stickers, they could claim everyone does that

Went to their new shop in Burnley, rather than shop I think it would be better described as a Corridor. Its very very small.

Must admit, I was suprised by the quality of the softs, the pads and gloves in pretty much all the ranges are bloody lovely, but the price is still far too much for my taste.

On to the bats, plenty of offer, but again the prices are ridiculous, especially taking into account the quality of some of the willow being used. Didnt manage to take any pics as we didnt stay for too long and wasnt sure how the 3 members of staff would take to it, although they seemed to lack any knowledge on cricket or the gear they were selling.

I was also there picking up a repair for a sons friend, who having bought the NC bat on saturday, used it on sunday and managed to chip a fair chuck out of the back/edge of his bat with a mis timed shot, but due to the HUUUUUGE amount of concaving, the bat edge despite being massive, was so heavily concaved the edges were almost sharp and very narrow, which is what i believe resulted in damage of this nature. Notibly when expecting the bat after its repair, it appears whoever did the repair, also took some wood out of the edges to reduce the edge size and sharpness of the back of the bat, the spine is still very very pronounced and 'sharp' for lack of a better word

The old bloke working in the shop also happened to drop in that Compton managed to hit a 6 with one of their bats, and how amazing he is

i saw a team mate of mine today who bought an M&H bat in november. it had about 7 grains on it and a couple of blemishes on the face. wasnt impressed with it at all.

on a funny side to it though he asked if he could have the blue and purple stickers from the nick compton range. they basically told him to f*** off in a polite way and how did he know about them.

You lot are deluded !!  :)

Seriously all the top bat makers at some point I'll bet my mortgage has given or made a bat for him

You know what thou I would not be surprised at all if most of his bats came from someone who does not court publicity but a lot of the pros go to him and he's in the south of England

The other side of the coin is.....some of the bats are brilliant the Amplus is one of the best bats out there.

In fairness, there's a decent size stack of clefts in there - clearly at least some are being made. Given that this is a film made by an outside party, I wonder how much of it is M&H making big claims and how much of it is a filmmaker who might not know much about cricket getting overexcited by seeing a couple of photos and hearing 'oh yeah we made some for Sachin a while back' ha.

I'd be more than reasonable with them if they charged 200 a bat or so.
The Burnley shops never gonna sell owt at their full prices, never in a million years.
The old boy in there has set the shop up for his daughter, they might sell the odd bit of kit , but nothing else.
The back of the premises is an air con place,(his main business) so she won't be worried about rent or anything.
They have a personal link to the Taunton business, hence the setting up of the shop.

I have team mate is going to M&H for a bespoke for his 18th birthday. I've told him to not accept any part made stuff and to literally ask for a raw cleft or a cleft with a handle. Then he needs to sit over the guy while he makes it and not leave his side until it's complete and in his hands. Don't want them slipping off and shoving a part made into the vice, then charging £500!

This kind of smoke and mirrors makes my blood boil, but many brands pretend to be something their not.

Title: Re: M&H made in England
Post by: AlanB on February 11, 2016, 10:32:09 PM

There were hints of it on here.

Personally felt the emphasis by Salix on their production methodology was targeting those brands which were not fully transparent on the provenance of their bats, or overselling the UK handmade image.

That said, the M&H I have is a very good bat, others have said the same about theirs. Their softs are innovative and decent quality (haven't experienced 2016 range). So, something good is going on.

Ha I don't think anyone is doubting that not all their bats are made there anymore! But clearly still have the capability/materials to make some at least. Either that or they really are going all in for the deception! Such a shame, I haven't used a recently made one but the old made in Somerset M&Hs were such good bats.

40 clefts will be enough for bespoke/experience day.

But they wouldn't be able to use these clefts in a day would they? Aren't handles normally left overnight to dry before being shaped...

I'd put money on the experience day just being a handled part-made that's then shaped in front of you

Think this sums up M&H clientele for me... "little Tarquin wanted a cricket bat as he was selected for the school 9th team the following week. I went out and bought him a new one costing £470. Excellent deal! Unfortunately after only a years' use he has (direct quote) "moved on from cricket and I am now stuck with this expensive piece of firewood"'. Classic
