Title: Gray Nicolls workshop-Twitter
Post by: Disco on February 11, 2016, 03:58:10 PM
Not sure if this has been mentioned before but Gray Nics have a workshop based Twitter account, some really interesting insights into what goes on, currently got some of Alastair Cooks bats in for refurb with photos showing the various stages. Bat looks a wreck tbh, shows just how much even the pros with an endless supply of new bats try to preserve a good one.

Profile is @MadeByGrayNics

They are pretty interactive on that account too. Respond to questions and are very insightful. When i had my Nemesis made by them via @Vitas Cricket they tweeted pictures and updates of what they were doing to the bat. I dont believe thats a standard offering but it really did make it that little bit extra special given the bat was a present too

ohhh this is a great thread

isn't it fantastic how the old fashioned methods are still used today

and I've always believed myself it's a myth just because pro's have loads of bats given to them that they actually use them all....I think they stick to a favourite...

 :)

Some do some don't I think, famously Gilchrist kept one match bat going for a few years because he liked it so much! You can tell a lot from the way pros behave when they break one mid-innings, 4/5 get brought out and some will stand there and pick up each in turn, look at the shapes, fiddle with grips etc before choosing their favourite; on the other hand some just take the nearest one and go back to batting. Buttler did it the other day in the ODIs actually - Taylor came out with loads of bats and was clearly expecting him to choose carefully, Jos just grabbed the first one and walked off.

Chris who posted the images and is head bat honcho at GN used to be a classical furniture repairman so his skills in the craft are second to none.

Nevertheless the pleasure of meeting him but often have a bit of banter with him over various things and seems a lovely bloke 👍

If anyone remembers the powercone april fools bat, the perfectly rounded cone sanded/carved into the back of the spine? He did that by hand.

He actually kept using that for another couple of series and had it fixed again a few months after this.
