Warsop vs Newbery vs Salix vs Millichamp & Hall vs Laver & Wood vs Bradbury vs ? the list might go on...................
Platinum, Navarone, Pod 1, Harlequin, Private Bin, M Players, ? ...........................
I've been through quite a few websites and read quite a few reviews. It makes it a little harder to decide when you can't physically pick the bat up.
Criteria = 2lb 7ozs - 2lb 9ozs, 9-12 Grains, Grade 1 Willow, good pick up & balance (not toe heavy), broad sweet spot (from splice to toe across full face of bat), reasonable edge (say from 30mm),........ not much more I can say.
Recommendations Welcome.

I would say go with a Redback, www.redbackcricket.com (http://www.redbackcricket.com)
-
Speak to PeteHosk, hes got enough bats! Probably all of those named.
But as Roco says, Redback have lots of great reviews on this forum.

Redback!
-
If you are considering other brands apart from the ones listed in your first post, then I would go for BAS, SS, AS or CA
-
For reputation, salix or redback!

For reputation, salix or redback!
Screaming Cat, or Newbery
-
Your budget for a cricket bat would determine what choices you have....
-
Newbery if u r after English Brand
-
Well - all the brands mentioned are decent enough.
When you talk about Screaming Cat, Lever & Wood, Redback, Newbury, Bradbury, Salix, M&H, Warsop then you are talking about top notch bats!!
I would imagine that anyone would be more than happy with any of these bats - they are all class!
But you need to look at where you bat, what format, and your style of play!
Also need to look at what kind of pick up, where you want the middle, etc!
Take your time in picking which bat os best for you! But as I said, all those makes are excellent!! The only question is which bat would suit your style of play best???
-
All of those makes are top class. I would try and get in front of a batch and take your pick of the one that looks and feels the best to you when physically in front of a few.
If you are just doing it online, then go through a custom bat maker, like Redback; they will ask you all the right questions and consult you to make sure you get the perfect bat for you personally, plus you get better customer service.
-
BUYING ON LINE. Is what I have to do and getting it shipped to Australia and so I don't have the luxury of picking it up and getting the feel I'm looking for - before I pay for it - so bat maker reputation to supply a great bat/good customer service come into play.
THE LOOK of the bat is a part of it (stickers/brand) but how it plays/performance is probably the most important criteria for me.
STYLE OF PLAY. Batting No. 7 depends a lot on how the openers/top order went, if and when I come in, so I'm fairly versatile.
RESPONSES. Redback, Salix, Newbery and Sreaming Cat get mentioned which is not to deny BAS, SS, AS or CA. These last 4 brands seem to have large amounts of stickering which, in my opinion, detracts somewhat in contrast to the "more conservative" Salix etc.
BUDGET as relates to website prices RRP involves a range for Redback Surefire GBP180, Salix Fera GBP240, Newbery GT335 SPS GBP250 and Screaming Cat Premium Bat (Series2) AUD$625/GBP340.
THANKS to those who posted a response. I'll post something in due course when I've bought something and used it.
-
Well, both CA bats and the BAS bat I have are nice bats. Have an AS on the way, as I wwanted to try one out. Never used an SS but everything I have read suggests that they're decent enough!
And as much as I like the CA and BAS bats that I have, I would still use a Redback, Laver, Screaming Cat, Salix or Newbery ahead of them!!
That's personal choice, as I personally have found that the balance, the control, and the quality to be slightly better.
Picking just one of those brands will be your hardest choice mate! The only choice I would question is the Redback, as you have listed the Surefire?
Batting number 7, I would tend to opt for the more all round bat - the Allegiance? Or do what I did and go for the custom made 'in-between' bat?
If you look in the Bat Review section, you'll see the review mate. I haven't done a review of my Screaming Cat yet, but that bat is likely to be as awesome as the Redback!!
If I had to buy just one of those bats, I seriously wouldn't have a clue of which bat to purchase! But keep us all updated! ;D

Bradbury all the way, Have just been to GCCC and I saw a monster with 43mm edges with a dead weight of 2.8!

just because a bat has 43mm edges doesnt mean its a great bat....

Its a good sign though ;)
-
It also had great ping! But the best bat by far was a GM Icon.
-
What type of Bradbury? What was the damage (price) for it?
And the edge & price of the GM ICON?
-
$675 for the GM edges we about 32mm, top model Bradbury and $700.
-
Lot of money for an Indian bat, if the GM pinged the best then buy that.
-
You're right! Alot of money!
If I were to spend that amount of good Aussies Dollars, I would go for Screaming Cat!
Would so love to visit that workshop!!!!
-
What about an MG, he gets good willow I hear!!!
-
PM'd you Michael. (gMail)

Went to the Salix Website and through the stockists websites and found the cheapest advertised Salix Fera Grade 1 for GBP199.
Emailed the stockist with what I was after and they replied "Sorry we do not operate an overseas mail order service. We wish you well with your cricket." How hard can it be? Or is there some law preventing the sale of cricket bats overseas? Somewhat bewildered as to why the stockist doesn't operate an overseas mail order service?
-
The only thing I can think of is the pathetic import / export process we have here!???
We can order Lavers from NZ, Screaming Cats from Aus, and anything we want from the USA.
But I think that cd0070 tried to order a bat from the UK and was told the same thing!!
Mind you, every time we order things from Aus we seem to get stung by customs!
I ordered some stickers from GCCC, and customs stung me! It wasn't enough that GCCC ripped me off with their large postage charge!!!
So maybe you need to ask someone you trust to buy you one and send it to you???
-
Warsop refused to post Cd0070 a bat overseas due to something to do with their warranty, strange.
-
In contrast to the Salix stockist (amongst those that will send me a bat) Redback will charge me GBP35 to send a bat to my door, so something isn't right somewhere. ie Salix stockist doesn't operate a mail order service and Redback is able to send me a bat. Is the Salix stockist "just a bit lazy/not bothered"?
-
Salix probably don't want the hassle, but Gary at redback
is happy to post to you. I have a redback and they are very good bats, cd700 might
be a man to talk too, he could tell you the bat companies that were willing to post for him.
-
Some aren't covered for overseas shipment with their credit card merchants.
-
Not had it. Use the pm option here.
Done.
-
Setting up paypal isn't that hard, if they cant accept credit cards..
I really haven't had a problem besides Warsop, contact Salix directly they also offer better RRP for overseas customers and they will ship to you. They take forever to reply though.

Good deal on a Cat and in Aus to so shipping shouldn't be an issue.
-
Bought an SS Limited Edition LH/LB 40mm edge 14 grains about 2lb 7ozs/2lb 8ozs over the internet from www.sscricket.com but haven't used it yet.

How was SS's communicaton? How long did the bat take to arrive after you ordered it?
-
Ordered the bat online with specifications detailed as to what I wanted. Jatin Sareen from SS then emailed me clarifying a few things I wanted or had queries about. Had to pay upfront and when they confirm receipt I understand it took about 4 days to procure/make the bat. When ready to send they email you and it took about 4 days to get from India to Australia. Around 2 weeks from ordering/paying to delivery to my door. Communication was spot on.
