Title: Butterfly grade bats ??
Post by: Eliotroberts on February 13, 2016, 07:21:04 AM
Hi guys anybody bought a butterfly grade bat? I've heard mixed reviews on them but a friend of mine has one from b3 and it seems ok. Anybody reccomended any sponsors that regularly produce good butterfly bats ? Thanks guys

£150 I think or £175 for g1 butterfly. Something like that. I went for the supreme shape and asked for a light pickup (I used 2lb 8oz bats previously). When it came the bat was very well finished with what I think are the smartest stickers.
The dead weight was 2lb12oz but it does indeed have a light pickup. This bat made me realise that you should ignore the dead weight of bats.
First innings I had with it I biffed off a quick 75. Cheers Paul, nice bat

Many of the makers will say they perform really well due to the increased stiffnes the stain gives the blade.

They sound a little funny bit my oh my do they ping.

I've had 4 butterflies from b3. The lads at my club had a play with my first, and I ended up fetching another 5 for them over the next few weeks.

Very highly recommended.

But.

Pictures speak a thousand words. So what does a video say??

That's a b3 buttefly in that video, sounds not the same but look how far it goes!

MSR has a few on eBay for about £45-£60 each I think, they definitely qualify as a bargain.

Had both Aldred and B3 butterfly bats and they've been great, Paul Aldred in particular makes a beautiful bat.

I have an Aldred G1 Butterfly and it is one of the few custom bats I own that met ALL my specs. Weight? Check. Location of sweet spot? Check. I had requested a very high sweet spot. 1.5 grips? Check. Bow? Check. He took care of every detail! For a 2-12/2-13 bat, it picks much lighter.

I'm a great admirer of Paul's work. I visited his workshop 2 years ago where he made me a gold sovereign butterfly. Beautiful bat and finished to a very high standard.  However, I did find it a bit too toe heavy which was entirely my fault given I had plenty of opportunity to ask him to take a bit more weight off it. Anyhow last winter I sent it back to him for a refurb, and asked him to reduce the weight a little, and it came back good as new and perfect pick up for me, and scored me a good few runs last season (by my standards). Best performing bat I've ever had, and though I'm certainly no hitter, @Boondougal will attest to its performance since he was hitting it like a tracer bullet at our last oval net.

Has anyone got any photos they can upload of their butterfly bat(s)? Interested to see what the majority of them look like with colour/grains etc

This was my butterfly. It has since moved on to a teammates kit bag.

Cheers, some of them look incredible. 9 Grains and a large Butterly stain right across the sweet spot must make it a cannon

Absolutely nothing wrong with that bat @felix... i have to say it is one of those bats that just feels good in the hand which makes it easier to connect with the ball and use its potential. I've been buying a few bats recently but an Aldred is still high on my list to own. I would have no issues in buying a butterfly from him, or most of the other sponsors

Butterflies vary a LOT. Have had ones with huge great stains, or here's my Aldred when it was new:

this is one I got - I must take some better pics - when B3 posted it, it was waxed up very nicely and looks a lot better than these pics.

All these bats look very decent to be honest. Really like the look of the Aldred bats. B3 also, just enquired about a b3 butterfly, if not then Paul Aldred will be receiving an email. Cheers guys
