For those tempted by the cheap prices at OLS, this is for you.
OLS MAXGRAINER at £78 with knocking
Weight 2.95
Edge 42mm
Spine 62mm
Grains 17...ish
50/50 heartwood/ redwood
Very concave
Minimal bow
Thin round handle, requested oval, But that doesn't exist at OLS.
Mid to low middle as requested
Very bad finish. Grain 180 actually improved it!
Pickup feels good, but doesn't look a big bat with the insane concaving.
Ping is great, here's the fun bit, you don't feel the concaving! How great is that.
Very well knocked in, minor dents with my frankenmallet, edges and toe needed rounding though.
Used in one match, and the handle opened a slight Crack on one of the bamboo canes, untwined, glued, double twine and seems sturdy enough now.

It really is.. Luckily, I have a jig and extra canes if it goes..
-
I have to admit - if I wanted a cheap bat I would be going to somewhere like MSR rather than OLS - and having a conversation with Steve on what he has in stock...
-
Yeah, would do too, if it wasn't so bloody expensive in shipping. £35 against £15.

I have bought a max grainer and a pro a while ago.. After using other bats I'm not a fan of their unbranded bats.. They are poorly pressed and if you don't know to fix bats your money is down the drain.. There are so many branded options within the same price point.. SM is one of them.

And the worst thing..don't go with all the reviews posted on the website. The same reviews can be seen for many items ..it was so funny that I saw a review about ss le in a sg bat.. But having said all that he does provide u with genuine company products. But tries silly marketing ideas.

My maxgrainer is very well pressed. But I do agree on the branded bats being better :-)

I bought 1 of the Custom reserve (highest grade) from OLS and it performs really well, still have it after 2/3 seasons. The only issue I had with it was the handle was super thin, using 4 grips on it.

Shoulder snapped 4 inches on the first session..
-
Presumably OLS have offered you a free repair/money back/replacement?

What? Update how the service has gone.

Didn't ask. Bats been sitting idle since last year this time. Haven't had the use for it. Unfortunately one of my other bats broke during winter nets..
I cut out the handle, opened up the crack, glued it and wrapped it tightly in twine. Refitting a new handle tomorrow, and hopefully it works well.. Unfortunately my bandsaw has quit on me, so had to do it by hand, and it looks even worse than OLS fitting :P

Now roll her down and show us where she has been nailed [emoji6]
